I would like to know how you guys spend your hard earned ability points from WvW XP.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_Experience

I went for the Guard Killer & Defense against Guards first, as they start out cheap and are useful when taking out sentries, guarded caravans & camps. I also invested in the first tier of Siege Bunker, because getting hit by siege weapons is never fun and ACs are everywhere these days.
Mercenary's Bane seems to be useful when you deal a lot with NPCs on EB, but I tend to keep fighting on the borderlands more often, so I skipped that.
Supply seems to be overpriced for the limited gain you have.
This leaves the siege skills. I am currently torn between Siege Might for +1% on all siege engines or the tier 1 for ACs, because even with a nerf to them coming up a range increase is always nice.

With steps of 5 points more on higher tiers for the siege engine abilities (to a total of 75 points to be a master), I really wonder if they are so much better after tier 1 than the Guard track, which you can use constantly, unlike e.g Canons & Ballistae, which are low on supply.

PS: unless there is no "calling for dibs" when you have a higher ability score than the current operator, the focus on siege only is good in organized guilds which will give the operator to the best man. I could be "Mr Canon" for no effect, if someone else is happily shooting with the artillery at the moment.

Attention grabbing headline. Has anyone else noticed Anet originally started off saying people will find ways to counter things, we don't need to balance certain skills. And some very specific skills came to light. 100 blades at the beginning was OP, Anet very specifically said 100 blades was a noob skill, and only noobs didn't know how to counter it. Now it's useless in PvP.

They've put out two videos recently, one for sPvP and one for WvW that show how to counter very common, very specific tactics. In the latest video, right off the bat they mention countering stealth in small WvW parties.

In many ways I think this is very cool. A game so complicated you can't immediately grasp certain counters. The "100 blades is noob" thing came out of the video where they talked to some of the most elite PvPers around; people who said they were playing 12 hours a day of sPvP.

I was once killed by 100 blades and complained about it on these forums even.

Because (IMO) we were too slow to "get" the game, the devs are showing us what they use and how to counter it. My question, what have you changed about your thoughts on skills from the videos in regards to PvP/WvW?

Essentially, this will remove people in the Jump Puzzle from the world population numbers. So right now, if there are 10 people doing the jumping puzzle and there's a queue to get into EB, then this change will mean that 10 more people will be able to enter WvW.

I guess it also means you can't go directly back from the puzzle to EB.

It will still work as it does now (ie. you can attack players from other servers doing the puzzle) this is mostly just to (partially) alleviate queue issues.

Currently, when you jump onto a ledge in WvW you are unable to use skills (except for immediate activation like mist form and shout). From a short period of testing, I conclude that what the ledge does is keeping you in mid-jump state. The get-around to this is to nudge or jump again, which is annoying because the delay can affect skills like aoe snares by a lot.

I don't normally PvP, but when I do, I sPvP. Seriously though, I don't really care for PVP, but for some reason sPvP has gotten me into it. Here is a thread to come up with tourney ideas. I posted this on the official forums, but will post it here as well:

“TUG OF WAR!”

This is a close quarters skirmish. Pretty simple:

1>> Close quarters arena of some kind (small area)
a) Safe zone team dugouts on either side for each team to re-spawn and jump back in
b) Players can fight with each other anywhere on the map

2>> Line right down the middle of the map
a) Each half of map is filled in with that team’s color
b) The more players a team has alive on their side they gain ground by moving the line (and their color on the map) into the opposing team’s side

3>>Timer
a) The game records for how long a team is able to hold the middle map line over their opponents side of the map
b) Some UI to note the percentage of a team’s control throughout the match till the end

ie., If the Timer is halfway through and if control is split 50% even, one team will have to score 26%+ before the match ends to win.

I think it would be a lot of fun. Thoughts?

As part of our ongoing effort to improve the game experience with changes big and small, we’ve decided to change the time of the WvW match resets. The current time is Midnight UTC on Saturdays, which is mighty inconvenient for our European friends who want to get in on the action of the newest match right away. We’ve decided that moving the reset time back by 2 hours to 22:00 UTC on Friday night to try and find a more happy medium for NA and EU servers. This will go into effect beginning this week and will be the new time going forward. Hopefully this makes it easier for you all to jump right in at the start of a new matchup.

Discuss!
