A Mod just said in the game that they opened early due to demand, I also read that there is a new game guide at www.guildwars.com

A few things to find people.

1) districts - as town fill up a new town will be created. If you are in district 3 and your mate is in #2, then the top left pull down box is used to change (works in mission outposts as well)

2) shift and/or control will make names appear on screen (much like alt with displaying items in diablo)

3) to whisper: /w <name>, <message>
You MUST have the , (comma) and it must be the full and complete character name.

4) friends list is a good way to see if people is online. Its limited to 25 people max. You only have to add one character for a person, and all other characters of his will be displayed as well when they are online

6) any questions, just pester a player wearing a red/blue tabard. red = developer, blue = alpha tester
