We have a dog now.
Our dog is now in charge of bringing dirt inside the house.
One less duty for me!![]()

Why getting carpets anyway? Take a laminated floor/wooden floor/any other flat surface floor. No problem with mud then.
I was glad we don't have carpet at home, my mother was visiting last weekend and she has two dogs...
(you should have seen the floor when she left, it was almost black...)

My entire house has either marble underfloor heated flooring/underfloor heated wood, but she wanted a carpet in one of the receptions at the side, so I got one and fitted one.
Now to clean the mud -_-
I just don't ever go outside. No mud. Win for me!

If you want carpet; plan ahead. The correct Shag-Pile carpet will make dirt vanish by just scuffing your foot across it a few times. With the right Shag-Pile carpet; you can hide enough dirt to grow corn.
When buying cabinets, avoid short ones. The dust that collects on top of them gets noticeable after a few years. Always make sure the cabinets are not only taller than yourself but also your friends. You don’t want them thinking that you don’t care about their opinion of your house do you?
For those cabinets that have open shelves there is a little trick to make dusting easier. Place them about 2 inches away from the wall. This gives you a place to push the dust to.
Planning ahead is always important and, your furniture should match. For cabinets; lay a sheet of neutral colored paper out for a month or so before furniture shopping. Remember to cover it with something clear like plastic wrap before taking it furniture shopping or, you will lose your dust. It is then just a simple matter of selecting furniture based upon the color of your dust. If you have several pieces of furniture that seem to be close and can’t decide what one is closest; ask for help; the sales people are professionals.
In most cases a little less planning is required for carpet. A spoon full of dirt from the yard in a zip-lock bag will do.
If the area you live in has varied soil types you will need to do a little extra work and, you can’t expect a perfect match. Take one spoon full from the farthest point you will be walking in followed by two spoons at the next area. Repeat this process as needed adding one spoon full at each point; until you finish up at your door. Blend the soil together well to obtain the average color.
Again; don’t be afraid to ask for professional advice.
If you own a pet this is also not a major problem. Many carpets can be obtained that are primarily one color with a secondary color in them. Cut off a patch of fur to take with you. After matching your dirt you can then try and get the secondary colors as close as you can to the fur. However unless you are willing to place a custom order, this may require a bit of compromise on color.
(Note: If you don’t own a pet but are thinking about getting one; get an extra piece of carpet so you can match up the fibers with your potential pet.)
At the carpet store or pet shop there will be sales people willing to make sure you get the professional help you need; all you have to do is explain your dilemma to them.
LOL. What a great thing to read first thing in the morning.
Thanks for the entertainment Bowie.
Another good story to add to the Book of Bowie.
I've been informed on several occassions that I'm not allowed carpet anywhere in our place. As a result I've managed to get license over the computer room. Though everytime I bring this subject up I'm greeted with an extremely worried and quite frankly, scared look.

This is a great post, thx!
Here's my contribution.
Instead matching the carpet color to your pet's color, here's an easy trick for you.
Apply shedded fur directly to the carpet evenly, and pretend that it's a new style of carpet.
I found that giving my pet a rought rub down during shedding season provides more than enough fur for the task.
