Hmm, I've followed it a little but not too much. Guess I'll go look at the video, thnx Diab.

Problem that needs immediate attention? IM me
I've been having computer problems for the past few days. I got a new harddrive, my third, and there's no room for it as far as wiring goes. Both of my motherboard's IDE buses are full with drives (two cd drives, two harddrives). So I bought a PCI controller card that was recommended to me by someone who knows a lot about computers. The problem with this controller card is that apparently it refuses to format drives to larger than 131 GB (the new one is 300 GB). I have WinXP SP2 and got all the updates for the card. I tried rearranging the drives and their jumper settings a lot of different ways, and nothing worked quite well.
I finally achieved a configuration that works pretty well, with an old drive sitting on the controller card and the other two on the motherboard's bus. However, something seems to have corrupted some of the files on one of the old ones that I've had for a while.
For example, some music files refuse to play properly, and some have completely different songs mixed in with the music file. It's really weird. I just put on an mp3 album and instead of the songs, each mp3 plays a sound segment of a movie that I have, located elsewhere. I've never seen anything like this before, where files sort of become spliced with other files.
Chkdsk fixed some of this, but not all. I don't know what the hell to do now.
I finally got to go on GW and finish some trades today, after not playing for a few days.
Anyways, I saw War of the Worlds (great movie!) about a week ago. I had a really interesting dream last night. I and my dad, along with some other people, seemed to be in the movie, with everything getting destroyed and us running from the "aliens" just like in the movie. However, instead of aliens, there were Charr! There were numerous charr forces just invading the planet, and just when we though we were safe, we'd look behind us and see an army of Charr running towards us.
Pretty damn freaky, to say the least.
I guess it's time to go back to searing ascalon and kill some Charr! :surprise:
I am irrationally annoyed by computers with more than one optical drive. I bought a CD burner recently, and to me the only thing to do with the old drive was the take it out and put it in the cupboard somewhere. Some people it seems like to collect drives, why??? I have seen computers with three CD/DVD drives/burners. Zuh?
Anyway I bet your harddrive with the funky mp3s is stuffed, unless it's across both your old drives or something? Do you need all three harddives? You could make the 300GB one into a couple of partitions and copy across anything you want off the old drives then take them out and put them in the cupboard.
I had a total of a little over 10 gigs left before; that's why I got a third harddrive. It wasn't really necessary. I could've burned some DVDs with some data, but I felt it was time for an upgrade. What I didn't know was that it would cause such a hassle. In the end, it looks like my best option would be to just return the new HD and the controller card. That, or try getting an external USB or Firewire HD.
Gah upgrades...There's a fair few key ones I need to get done on this computer and then the old parts in this can go in the other...which also needs a new hard drive....Well there goes any money I earn from a job this summer

So if you dig deep in this thread, you'll see a few posts about my escapades getting Websearch Toolbar, a trojan.
Well guess what! One of my friends on AIM sent me a link, i clicked, and PWND. Another trojan. This one is Hacktool.Rootkit. Norton is, of course, useless. I asked this girl "dude, get offline you hav a virus thats spreading itself to your friends!!" And she replies "yeah I know, I just tell people not to click."
...
GREAT. Well Norton can delete the virus that the trojan installs to spread itself via AIM. Just not the trojan itself. So Fallen suggested getting AVG, and I found a couple other recommendations, but most are turning up fruitless. I did find a support forum that a moderator is helping me with, but pretty much I wont be on GW until I get this sucker flushed. NAV tells me that I need to restore from backup. And since I dont HAVE a backup... that means format! Dang it.
So I got HijackThis and the guy on the forum is checking my startup log and the scan log to try and see wtf is going on. I guess another good sign is this .exe file that tries to boot everytime I sign online in DOS, but my computer errors and wont let it (not because it knows its a virus, but I think just for some other reason, thank GOD). Too bad my adwareaway trial is up haha.
/sigh

I seem to have computer issues quite often myself. I blame it on my operating system; it will sometimes tell me there is a problem and ask what I want it to do about it. I don’t know anything about the strange devices so, the less choices I have the better my chances of getting it right are.
I had problems with GW last night and, this morning it informed me of a problem. (I had figured it out long before and on my own. GW not working was what I like to call a clue.) The good part is that it only gave me two choices to pick from. That gives me a 50/50 chance.
lmao Bowie I love that theory.
Talking of computer issues, I get back to this house after a week to find they've broken the network while cleaning the carpets and they've also broken the cable modem....still, only took me a good 40 minutes to get it fixed when i woke up. I can't leave these things alone for more than a day without something going wrong![]()

I seem to be having some computer issues of my own. Anyone that has played with me on GW knows that I've been having lag issues. Well, I looked around through my comp info to see if I could find the problem, and alas, 256 MB of my memory went kapoot. The ports just aren't reading half of each stick of memory for some odd reason. I even went out and bought 2 brand-new sticks and still having the same problem. So I guess that means the only problem is that the port is having some issues. I guess it's time for a new computer... :hanky:
At least I don't have to spend a whole lot, the closest computer place has some for cheap since I've got nice speakers, screen, video card, sound card, etc. So all I need is something to put all that stuff in and I'm good to go.
