Just wondering what's a good set up for this? I think this character is going to be all support, mainly healing. So far that's all i've been doing when questing with my guild. I just hang back and heal. It's very easy, and care-free so I don't mind one bit, though i'll definatley make an offensive character as well.
(I'm in the same boat here..I haven't seen any guides for a monk/necro at all yet!)
I am currently playing a Monk/Necro, I am lvl 9 at the moment. I have attributes in Divine Favour, Healing Prayers and Blood Magic. When doing the quests I am mainly using;
Orison of Healing, Healing Breeze, Banish, Bane Signet, Vampiric Gaze, Vampiric Touch, Life Siphon and Animate Bone Horror.
I find Healing Breeze very useful, you get an initial heal due to Divine Favor and then the Life Regen kicks in, it is 10 energy though. Orison of Healing is only 5 energy and is a much larger instant Heal. Banish and Bane Signet are Smiting Prayers, and as I have no attributes in that I only do base damage, but I have found them useful against undead as they do Holy damage. Bane Signet costs no energy to cast but has a 25 second recharge time.
Vampiric Gaze, Vampiric Touch and Life Siphon are all for attacking/self healing, I hardly ever heal myself. Vampiric Touch is 15 energy and steals more health but you have to be next to the target. Useful for suprising Warriors how think you are a weak Monk. However I prefer Vampiric Gaze as it is only 10 energy and you don't have to be standing next to the target.
Life Siphon is great for maintaining you own health, whilst damaging an opponent.
Animate Bone Horror is death magic and again I only use it in emergencys, usually when I want to run away.
However in PvP I have been having some success with;
Orison of Healing, Healing Breeze, Mending, Banish, Vampiric Gaze, Parasitic Bond, Life Siphon and Resurrect Signet.
One big thing is watch out for Mesmers, I got shutdown in the arena by a Mesmer using Backfire, Conjure Phantasm and Imagined Burden.
i just bought the game a few days ago. i didn't play any of the test builds either. naturally i went monk and after goofing around a bit took necro.Originally Posted by Taxus Baccata
is it possible to counter those spells? you can't cast and you're slowed. that's harsh. i suppose you could let someone else heal while this is happening.
There are several Monk Hex removal skills, Purge Signet, Remove Hex, Smite Hex, etc.Originally Posted by klkl
Remove Hex is only 5 energy with a short cooldown, that is probably the one to go for.
Im currently playing a character that is a monk/necro. Using this is an easy alternative to having to team up your monk with someone. Im a level 5 monk/necro and can kill some level 5 creatures with 3-4 spells and the help of a minion or two. I had no idea this build had so much potential when I made it. Think of it as draining your enemies and constantly regenerating health. I have not moved my character to old ascalon, but I think this build will be fun to play in the PvP arena.

I have a level 10 monk/necro that is a pretty terrible healer.
points into blood, healing, and smiting [and 2-3 here and there I think that I haven't gotten to re-allocating]
skills are:
shadow strike
resurrect
symbol of wrath
vampiric gaze
healing breeze
signet of bane
vampiric touch
orison
One of the "tricks" with this guy is to utilize the fact that everyone attacks monks first. General practice is to run at the biggest enemy target, vampiric touch going. The touch should hit, restoring any health lost in the charge. Now in melee range [and attacted all the enemy melee users] cast symbol of wrath. That'll do 50+ to everyone by itself. If the party has an elementalist [or a mesmer in a pinch] they should also be getting their area effect spells off, which should add even more damage to the clump. The monk then casts more vampirism or healing [as mana allows, hence the signet of bane to kick in a little damage while the monk "recharges"] to keep alive while the area of effect spells do their work.
The trick is trying to balance the expensive, quick necro spells against the cheap and long monk spells since your energy supply will be limited.
I'm sure there's other great builds, like a healing/sacrifice sort of build, or some regen/degen sort of build.
