    How do runes work?

I just bought "Monk Rune of Minor Protection Prayers" for 100 for fun, does this increase my protection prayers permanently by 1?

You must put that rune in a piece of armor for you to get that +1 boost to protection prayers. It is permanent as long as you wear that piece of armor. If you were to craft better armor you can use an expert salvage kit on the old piece of armor to get your rune back to put it in your new crafted armor.

To put runes in a piece of armor you double click on the rune and then click on the piece of armor you want it in.

    Ooh, great, thx!
But hm, can u put more than one rune in an armor and get them all back when i salvaging it later?

Only one Rune per armour piece (that's 5 in total) and it's only a % chance of receiving the Rune back when using the Expert Salvage kit. The normal kit doesn't return them at all. It's best to only use runes with your final armours.
