Basically, the subject line says it all. I've got my PVP interests, but right now I want to just own some computer controlled mobs. Solo, if possible. And without henchmen if that is feasible. As such, which professions and builds do you guys think are the best for this kind of thing?
I've heard that Necros are good when based around minions and such, and I'd think that Eles with their AoE damage might be feasible. Warrior/Monk? Can they take on groups of mobs at a time? That seems the most obvious restriction to soloing -- groups of mobs greater than 3.
What do you guys think?

For the ability to take on the game from an entirely solo/PVE point of view I'd have to say a Necro/Ranger Minion army is probably your best bet. Using Blood/Death/Beastmastery. basically use non minion skills and the ranger pet to start killing, once that first mob is down, you can start building your army. Most other options run into the big issue of encountering large numbers of enemies, and them having few numbers of targets in return... IE you have 7 monsters to attack, while all 7 are focused solely on you. NOT GOOD ODDS!
My Wa/Mo takes next to no damage in combat so while I might not be able to dish it out as well as other classes can I can outlast them. For PvE with henchmen I they can help me take out healers and mesmers and I can just raise the dead afterwards.

I find a protection/smiting/wilderness survival monk/ranger to be pretty good for soloing. Make sure you obtain zealots fire, mark of protection reversal of fortune and signet of devotion. Other skills can be used as desired (wilderness survival was for these 'other skills')
What makes the Necro/Ranger combo any more soloable than a different Necro primary combination? Just the tough pet?
And do you have to take on the Blood line? Wouldn't keeping blood up to par require sacrificing a lot of points in Death, Soul Reaping, and Beastmastery?
Also, it sounds like monk combos are pretty good for survivability. Can they really take on groups of 3+?
Thanks everyone.
I find my E/MO decent for soloing. Lots of AoE spells and when I get surronded just keep the healing up while I do AoE.

im a necro with many problems against mobs.... just like u i asked arround on whats the best choice as long as i be a nec primary ( I LOVE IT ) :winking47
many said to use fire magic to deal great dmg in mobs and recover it with the soul rip. might be good but i dont like to have no control in hexes spells or any'else.
then i looked at smiting and theres good area dmg (but not as good as fire) + hex removal and resurect. still not convinced tho.
then i ended looking at rangers. "another pet might help" but sudently i found a trap.... THOSE ARE GOOD. traps are skills, nice area dmg, lots of conditions, averange cost and wilderness survival has good balance skills with nec... BUT, i still dont understand how do they work... anyone can explain me ?
for mobs, the best way to kill them, is area dmg... LOTS ! not having lots of AI helpers that die very quickly. I sugest u try out a Pure Elemetalist with mesmer to help if needed
10 energy storage
11 fire
10 water
-Fire storm
-Inferno
-fire ball
-ice spikes
-armor of mist
-Aura of restauration
-Elemental atunement
-fire atunement
First prepare atunements, then start shooting, once near cast aura, then inferno and firestorm and if ur doing bad cast the armor. So in 30 secs you would have dealt arround 500 dmg or more to everyone near to you with almost no mana spend and life gained. JUST CARE THE HEXES or ENCHS
I've heard good things from my guild mates about warriors/monk combos with Live Vicariously and Mending. Constant health regen of 3, plus up to 11 health gain or so per hit means you can soak up lots of damage and stay alive. Just make sure not to fight anything that can remove those enchantments. Maintaining them both leaves you without any energy regen at all, but you can use a build with only adrenal attack skills pretty easily with a warrior.

with the warrior monk u shouldnt use mending + live viracusly at the same time... this will leave u at 0 mana 0 regen THAT SUKS !!!
if u go for the combo (witch i use) mending + balthazars spirit u get +3 life regen, and adrenaline + energy when hit.... use that energy to cure urself or other atacks and get crazy adrenaline by mobs !!!
PD: ill post u a build if u like...
