Axe, Smiting, & Healing War/Mnk build

    Hello, all,

I'd be curious as to your input and insight on the following build for a War/Mnk.

There are a few threads floating around regarding a War/Mnk but none seem to be the same as this one. Most, not all, but MOST... seem to support Sword... I'm going Axe.

Most also seem to support EITHER Smiting or Healing Prayers, (along with Strength or Tactics), but none seem to support BOTH Smiting AND Healing Prayers with only a nod to Strength and really nothing in Tactics.

The below is for a pure PvE ONLY build. Also this build is designed with solo'ing/Henchie'ing in mind.

Let me explain some of my reasons for choosing what I did... THEN you can tear me a new one :)

Axe: I like the status effect of Crippling Wound without a pre-req to it. There don't seem to be as many Axe users out there so I THINK Axes are easier/cheaper to get. I like the way Axes look :) And last but not least, the PBAoE of Cyclone Axe for only 5 energy. As you'll see as you look at the build... it's centered around AoE combat.

Smiting: Between Symbol of Wrath and Zealot's Fire I'm adding considerable AoE power to Cyclone Axe. At my low level of 10 with only 5 in Smiting, 8 in Axe, and only having Symbol of Wrath thus far... I can tell you... I'm able to lay down some serious smack with Cyclone Axe and Symbol of Wrath.

Healing Prayers: I need it at 10 minimum if I want the +3 HP Regen for Mending... anything less than 10 and I only get +2. I suppose I could experiment with this a bit but I like the idea of +3 HP Regen. Plus a 53 HP heal from Orison is pretty nice for an emergency heal when I need it. If I've got a Healer with me, either live or Henchie, I may put something else in place of Orison... though I really like it for emergency use and it has already saved my butt on occasion.

Strength: I hear more negative about this than good... but still figured the points are better spent here than in Tactics... especially since I won't likely be using a shield but rather a +energy offhand item of some sort.

Soooooo... without further adieu... below is the build I'm proposing for a solo'ing/Hench'ing PvE only build.

Thanks for any comments, criticisms, and advice you can give.

If your going with Zealot's Fire, switch out mending or an axe skill for a blocking type skill or a healing skill, as Zealot's won't be very effective with just Orison working with it.

    AH heck !!

I just re-read the description for Zealot's Fire... or should I say... actually read it AND understood it...

"Whenever you use a skill on an ALLY yadda yadda yadda..."

    SASSAFRASSIN' <mumble grumble mutter sputter>

I thought it was: "Whenever you use a skill yadda yadda yadda."

Dang... oh well... back to the drawing board.

I'm not sure whether to thank you for pointing that out... or not since you just shattered my "perfect" plan :)

Thanks for pointing out my faux paus.

<scratches his head and goes back to the character planner>

Actually, when it says "ally" it can also be targeted to yourself. It's when it says "OTHER ally" that you can't use it on yourself.

Example: Orison of Healing says "heal target ally", and you can use it on yourself and others. Now, with the skill Heal Other, it says "heal target other ally", and that can only be used on others, not yourself. So Zealot's Fire still works the way you think it does.

Thank you Mwack, I appreciate you pointing that out... uh... but... I already understand that :)

My problem is... what I thought it was saying was... that if I use a skill blah blah blah.

I was thinking that everytime I used a skill on the target that it would trigger Zealot's Fire.

As a Warrior with relatively low energy, even with Gladiator's Armor, I don't want to have to spam Orison or any other energy using skill to trigger Zealot's Fire.

I thought that using my adrenaline fueled skills on the target would trigger ZF. Thus getting the benefit of the AoE damage from ZF without having to use energy to trigger it.

My bad for misreading it :(

I appreciate you taking the time to point that out though.

I am now thinking of Balthazar's Aura. It's a whopping 25 Energy but I think I can pretty easily unload a Balth's Aura and Symbol of Wrath, (30 energy total), for a total of 220 dmg in the first 5 seconds and another 100 dmg in the next 5 seconds... not counting being able to use Cyclone Axe a bit.

Thanks again all for the input.

Huh, isnt balthazar's aura 15 energy (or i think even 10)? Its a good skill IMO. Even if a warrior has 2 enchantments, he can still regain energy fast, provided he will be well mobbed

    Ummm... try 25?

Balthazar's Aura is the AoE damage spell, I think yuber was thinking of Balthazar's Spirit, which gives you adrenaline and energy everytime you take damage.

Yea, you do get lots of energy using it if you're surrounded by foes, but I still feel more comfortable with atleast one pip of energy.
