I just started messing around with Fire yesterday and found out that a Fire El/Me has one of the strongest single target nukes in the game, especially vs high end mobs. Thought i'd write it here since i never see it in any build:
Fragility + Immolate. It adds around 40-50 clean damage every time you immolate someone which is really good damage vs high end mobs or warriors/rangers in PvP. It makes Immolate do overall over 100 damage (let's say 44 from fragility cause i don't think most will max a secondary skill, 42 from immolation and the rest from direct spell damage, so can do over 130 on caster types) most of the time which is awesome for a 5 sec cooldown 10 energy skill, it's comparable to Lightning Orb (actually better vs warrior/ranger types).
Fire eles out there should try it out if you want to be good vs single targets as much as with AOEs!
Except you are discounting the fact that orb has 25% armor penetration, and is not dependant on a hex to deal that damage.
Not discounting it at all. Vs caster types an orb does around 140. Vs warrior types around 85-90, and significantly less vs player rangers with lightning equipment, around 50-60.Originally Posted by Azuth of CoR
Immolate + Fragility deals around 80 CLEAN damage (92 if they're maxed and over 100 if you're Me/El and can boost Illusion to 16), that means no matter who you hit, and you got the direct damage as a bonus. So you can deal nearly as much vs caster types, as much vs warrior types and more vs ranger types.
Sure it is hex dependant but there isn't THAT many hex removal and fragility has a 10 sec cooldown. You can easily cover it up with a conjure phantasm anyway so that it's hard to remove and your target will nearly always be at max degen.
I'm not saying that single target fire nuking is stronger than air spamming at all cause there just isn't enough single target fire spells, but i'm saying that it can be a really nice single target backup instead of being stuck with a lot of AOEs only and fairly bad single target damage.
If you want to save the energy you could even just use Mark of Rodgort and hit your target with a fire wand to deal 80+ damage a hit...
True, I've just been seeing a lot of mesmers packing hex breaker lately. If you had phantasm on it would be easy enough to lead with that to kill hex breaker and then drop fragility. The added bonus is that a lot of teams are using fragility as a killer between their necros and mesmers, so your ele can get in on the action too.
I agree, but hex breaker is still only a stance so they can't cast it on others. Good idea though to preceed it with Conjure Phantasm on Me or /Me (can always recast it in case it hits a breaker), didn't think of this.Originally Posted by Azuth of CoR
