    Newbie here...

I just got Guild Wars for my birthday and there's a couple questions I'd like to ask.

1- What are the best four characters to make so that you have all of the eight classes, at least primary or secondary? I can adapt my play style to each, what I have a hard time coming up with is which to have as a primary and which to do as a secondary and such, and which pairings would work the best. Right now all I have is a Ranger Monk, the only reason I got monk was so I could resurrect a teammate, otherwise I spend most of my skills towards Beast Mastery. I'm willing to replace him with something else, though.

2- Is it possible to have a one-person guild? Do you get to make your own design for the cape or do you have to pick? I've got a cape design I really want and can't think of anyone I'd want in a guild with me. Maybe if I met people I liked later on I'd invite them, but at the start I'd rather have my own guild. I won't worry much about guilds until I've beaten the game.

3- What should you do an expert salvage on and what should you do normal salvage on and what should you sell instead of salvage? Lately I've been salvaging everything and then selling to the material traders, but keeping some materials for crafting armor.

4- Is there a page that says the easiest place to find X item? Like when you find a collector that wants a certain item, and then which monster(s) drop it and where you can find the easiest place to kill lots of those. For instance, I was killing Moss Spiders for almost an hour and never got a Spider Leg, until I gave up and went to do another quest and found the giant spiders which do drop spider legs.

5- What all kind of pets can you have instead of the original cat? I've seen a few in the arena and was wondering.

    1. There is no "best" combination, everything is workable. However, being a monk, a warrior or an elementalist will get you into random groups more easily. There's only six classes by the way.

    2. Yes, it's very much possible. the designs are picked out of a range of choices which you get to customize.

    3. Only expert salvage drops that may contain a) runes and b) interesting weapon upgrades. Do whatever you want with the rest. :)

    4. You may try here and use the search option, but the page probably needs to be updated.

    5. Try the ranger forum, all the info about pets is there.

    1. Actually all classes can resurrect using the Resurrect Signet, but as you well know, the monk can resurrect over and over. I have to admit, I don't know much about rangers but I had a monk character. Best part is that now you have a relatively self-sufficient character if you use Troll Unguent (the ranger healing skills) and the monk's Healing skills. Or use the monk's protection skills with your ranger's defense skills and you'll be quite unhittable.

I believe the ranger is quite dangerous in both PvE and PvP. Their use of poison, traps, spirits, defensive capabilities, and long range attacks are awesome. Whereas rangers don't get chosen into mission groups that often, your monk secondary will definitely gain the attention of misinformed groups who believe Warriors, monks, and elementals are the only way to go.

    2. You could have a one-person guild if you want.

    3. Expert Salvage anything that is Blue, Purple, or Gold in text. You might gain a rune or weapon upgrade.

    4. Check this site for information about monsters/drops. I don't know offhand.

    5. Do a "search" in the forums for "pets" or something like that. I do remember a thread about pets' damage. There's a trainer outside Old Ascalon that will take your current pet so you can charm another. So far I've seen Moa Birds, boars, bears, and I heard there's a spider in the UnderWorld you can get.

I'd answer, but the European/sleepless have done so already!

Just wanted to welcome you to the game and hopefully to this branch of the forums. I remember those HTML-linked, organized trade lists back in the D2 USEast Trading forum!
Perhaps the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others...

    Thanks. ^_^

Speaking of being organized, I've noticed that a lot of the stuff on this site is out of date or not included at all. Like in the cartography section, there's stuff that's in a slightly different place than the big huge map that's zipped says, some quests are missing or lacking information, etc.

So, in response, I've made it my goal to help out, particularly with the quests and bestiary. Maybe when I complete the game I'll submit maps. Also, is there a page that lists Collectors? I'd help out with that one, too, if it needed it. Was there a recent update or something that changed a few things around?

Only five classes? Ranger, Monk, Necromancer, Elementalist, Warrior... I guess so. I thought there were eight. =( How about....one of everything except monk, but they all have monk as a secondary? About the only monk skill I use is Resurrect, but they're all there in case I ever do need them, and for some reason Monk seems like the best secondary to have even if I don't use it much, heh. Plus, people who have Monk as a secondary don't get targeted nearly as much as people who have monk as a primary. And that means I don't have to start my Ranger over.

As far as the guild, I made my own just so I could look at the cape designs (can't afford it yet), and unfortunately you can't make your own emblem =(. They have lots to choose from, but I was wanting to have the Triforce symbol on my cape, that would've rocked. Still, there's more customization to the cape than there is to the faces.

I've been using expert salvage on purple things, haven't encountered any gold yet. I've been getting upgrade parts. What do I do with these if I'm not going to use them? (My ranger doesn't really need a hammer shaft.) So far I've just been normal-salvaging them like everything else. I prefer selling to 'traders' than to 'merchants' since you might get lucky and find something that gets a lot of money (my silver dye I found once really gave me a chunk of change, my first ever platinum piece, which I quickly spent), but other than rare materials, materials, runes, and dye, I can't find any other 'traders', and none outside Ascalon city. I also used the materials trader to buy some scales real cheap to get the Dragonscale armor in the Yak's place, getting fur squares was much harder and the Dragon armor looks cooler.

Should I really expert salvage the blue stuff, though? What's the benefit? I've noticed it gives pretty much exactly the same thing as a normal salvage does...

And finally, can someone give me a quick rundown on all the things a guild does and what might be detrimented by only having a one-person guild? Also, I heard that when you're in a guild, your other 3 characters are in the guild too, is that true?

    1. Do not adapt your play style to your character. Instead try to create a character that fits your play style. To achieve that you need to try few combinations and do some missions with your characters and if you find it awkward just delete it and start again.

    2. Possible but pointless. Guild is a place where people socialize and help each other. From the other hand you are always alone when starting one. Only one person can be a leader.

    3. <Edit by Chantal: Here's a better link. Linking to outside sites without mod permission is a big no-no. Salvage Item Guide >

    4. Google toolbar perhaps?

    5. I think there are 8 or 9. 2 kinds of bird, 2 kinds of cat, wolf, black bear, a lizard, and a spider (I think 2 different ones as well)

I remembered later, but didn't feel like editing it. =P So I've got to figure out a way to cram 6 into 4.
