I'm going to tell you a story to entertain myself. There is a ESL class (English as a Second Language) here at the church I work at, that meets every Thursday at 10:30 AM. It's a group of Japanese women who's husbands work at Toyota. So they started arriving about a half hour ago. The first one walked in a little ahead of the others, far enough that the outside door closed behind her. She got a very short way down the hall and was just passing my office when the others got to the door from the parking lot. Somehow the door had locked behind the first woman.

So the others, instead of just knocking and waiting five seconds for the woman that they just saw enter the building to open it, they ALL start pounding on the door with their fists, yelling their heads off, and yanking on the handle, rattling the door.

I was sitting at my desk thinking "Maybe I should go make sure there's not a bear or something out there. They're really flipping out." The woman inside turned around and headed back for the door, yelling something in Japanese that, from the tone of it, was "Okay, GEEZ!"

She opened the door to let them in, and they all started calmly chatting about something as they walked back by my office.

If I ever go to Japan, I need to study up on the etiquitte for encountering a locked door, because it's apparently not what I'm used to.

Kind of funny to me, I'd never heard of him until I saw him at PAX last year, and now he's spontaneously everywhere.

I was debating covering that one or Mandlebrot Set as well as the one I did. The latter's chorus is incredibly tricky to get right, lyric-wise. "Let Z be Z1 squared plus C, and Z2 is Z1 squared plus C.."

Btw, it really depends on who I am working with. I gauge people on their slackness by jokingly saying "alright, breaktime, what book do you want me to get you to read?" To which, surprisingly, the average answer has been "haha, what bookstore are you working for? Come on, let's straighten the shelves again!"

The assistant manager however, is like "sure, go grab a book and take a break"
