I became an SS necro just shortly before it hit its massive surge of new people just after the Elementalists got nerfed out of the UW (I know thats an overstatement, and I'm sorry if I'm upsetting any nukers). I've done so many runs and obtained so many ectos that its all hit the point where its very routine. However, there is still one question that burns through my mind more than ever now. Which spiteful necro should I continue to be? When I started I was a N/Me. It was great too. Use arcane echo+spiteful, kill blades, get ecto. Life was good. But then the one problem was that monks would die. No problem use res signet. Oops he died again. Well f*** that run...
It was about this time that a monk suggested that I go N/Mo and bring Vengence and Rebirth. Runs suddenly went alot smoother, but now I had to figure out a way to improve the recharge time on spiteful so that I could cast it as often as a N/Me does. Thats when I stumbled upon my current build. Which I will now post for your consideration:
Awaken the Blood
Unspent Pts: 1
Full Droks Scar Pattern Set
Used Head Scar with Curses +1 and Sup Curse Rune
Rest of the body has Minor Blood, Death, and Soul
Morgriff's Scepter(Green Item) - Gives 10/10 for both skill recharge/casting speed. Does no specify a specific stat. Req 9 Death
Collector's Idol from Crystal Desert - Gives Energy +12, 20/20 skill recharge/casting speed for curses skills, Req 9 Curses
The reason that I use 6 in Blood is to increase the duration of Awaken the Blood to 30 seconds. Next I have a 12 in Death because at that level Putrid does 101 HP dmg to the targets. I start out after the aggro has clustered by casting Awaken to give me +2 to Curses. I then cast Spiteful. Now depending on the recharge time I'll either choose another target and recast it, or I'll cast suffering. For the Blades suffering makes the effciency of Spiteful go up. It slows their regen and allows me more dmg over time. When one drops I'll use Putrid and this hit is usually enough to kill the rest or at least one more. Desecrate is better for smites, but with Awaken in effect is does 71 dmg to all targets (and the best part is that it doesnt seem to count as an AOE :)). For smites I don't use P. bond to cover the Spiteful, but rather I use Suffering. This usually works to my favor though since spiteful will quick charge, and I can choose a different smite that has already used Smite Hex. This allows me to keep a steady bead of Spiteful ineffect.
Ever since I changed from an N/Me to an N/Mo I haven't gone back. Yet there seems to be turmoil among the monks as to which group they truely want. Do they want to be resed or do they want better offense? Do they want runs that can be easily cut short or runs that go to completion? In the end though its all a matter of the personal choices of the necro.
Post your thoughts or even your builds if you feel comfortable. I'm extremely interested to find out what the necros in the house think.
