ATI Radeon 9520 PCI 256MB freezing GW-P & GW-F

Contantly does this within a few minutes of playing. VPU recovery saves having to do hardware reboots.
Computer System:
Compaq Presario SR1224NX
Intel P4 2.8 GHz/400FSB
Intel 845GV chipset
1GB RAM
Onboard Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller disabled via Device Manager (Can NOT disable in BIOS it seems)
Win XP Home

The game worked before installing the ATI 9520 but of course the graphics was garbage with the onboard Intel.

Any idea how to fix this? I've tried reducing the hardware acceleration and removing the write combining and running with -dx8. Nothing seems to help. Btw, reducing the hardware acceleration causes the mouse to flicker, better off removing the ATI and running with onboard Intel.

I did a search of this technical forum and found nothing with these specifics.
