Arrow What's your most commonly used Ranger PvE build lately?

At the risk of getting flamed I thought I might add this topic in here just for jits and shiggles. Look back over the past month and, if you feel up to it, post your most commonly used Ranger build for PvE. It may be old, it may be new, it may be complete crud, but who cares, this is a thread for fun and build discussion generally. List the skills, the stats, and a short paragraph explaining it's ups, downs, and uses. If it's organized nice enough this could get a sticky and help a lot of those "I need a good ranger build" questions that always pop up (maybe even make our own 'directory' of ranger builds per-se).

My most commonly used Ranger build for PvE in the past month:
    -Troll Ungent
    -Enraged Lunge {Elite}
    -Predatory Bond
    -Call of Haste
    -Comfort Animal
    -Charm Animal
    -Rebirth/Res
-Other Beastmastery skill to benefit Enraged (Poisonous Bite, Predator's Pounce, Tigers Fury, etc.)

    Bm - 11+1+3
WS - 9+1 (to get +8 troll ungent)
Exp - 8+1 (sweet spot for 10 energy skills)
Marks - 8+1 (meet bow requirements)

Works pretty good in most situations. Uses a bow and any armor. Minion Masters tend to stop my pet from getting to the targets sometimes and I do have to res the pet due to not much in pet defense on occasion but it's a good damage build with defense for you. I usually don't use comfort unless it's a quick res or have a target almost dead. Most often I am the one still alive if things go bad as I can always res the pet for a temp target if needs be while I make a hasty retreat, then return to res the party. Alternately, you could remove the bow and marksmanship attributes and add in another profession skill (take out 'Other Beastmastery skill') and attributes for it with a staff to match for added energy and meet the staff max damage req. (of course you'd have to bring WS down one point most likely to have enough points to meet it too).

I switch between a variety of builds depending on what mission I'm going on:
    General PvE
    Expertise 12 + 1 Minor Rune
    Marksmanship 12 + 1 Mask + 3 Superior Rune
    Wilderness Survival 3 + 1 Minor Rune
    1) Barrage (Elite) (swapped to Punishing Shot or Poison Arrow as needed)
    2) Distracting Shot
    3) Concussion Shot
    4) Watchful Spirit
    5) Whirling Defense
    6) Troll Unguent
    7) Free Slot (Typically Signet of Capture, Throw Dirt, or Favorable Winds)
    8) Rebirth
The main thing that people question when I talk about this build is the Watchful Spirit... it's a decent heal if you know how to use it, especially since it doesn't need any Divine Favor investment. I generally keep it enchanted on myself when I'm low on Health in combat... every little bit helps, and cancelling it gives a minor boost of 30 Health. I've used it on others, as well, saving party members with it on more than one occasion. Stacked with Troll Unguent, I'm not missing a higher Wilderness Survival. Otherwise, this is your standard Barrage with a sprinkling of interrupts. Not much to write home about, but I've grown accustomed to it like one grows accustomed to a nice chair or a good pen.

    Farming Pongmei Valley
    Expertise 12 + 1 Minor Rune
    Marksmanship 8 + 1 Mask + 3 Superior Rune
    Healing Prayers 10
    Wilderness Survival (all the rest)
    1) Barrage
    2) Live Vicariously
    3) Vigorous Spirit
    4) Lightning Reflexes
    5) Whirling Defense
    6) Throw Dirt
    7) Favorable Winds
    8) Winnowing
Pretty much a standard farming Barrage build. It's not the most effective attribute spread, but it doesn't require me to change the equipment I already have in my General PvE build. I typically use 4->5->6 because it's much easier to see when your stances run out than when Blindness wears off from Throw Dirt. After the Throw Dirt ends, the Lightning Reflexes is just about finished recharging. I carry a Fiery Longbow for taking out the stationary Island Guardians and a Zealous Shortbow for everyone else.

    Evil Pet Build of Doom
Lately, I've been having fun with Enraged Lunge. I don't recall the attribute spread off hand, but I'm fairly certain I've a Beastmastery of 15 and Marksmanship of 12.
    1) Sundering Attack
    2) Penetrating Attack
    3) Enraged Lunge (Elite)
    4) Tiger's Fury
    5) Call of Protection
    6) Comfort Animal
    7) Charm Animal
    8) Free Slot
Not only does the Tiger's Fury ensure that I can keep the bow damage up, but it blanks out Comfort and Charm Animal for more Pet damage. I might use a Res or a Troll Unguent in the 8th slot, depending on the situation. Still, I enjoy spamming the Penetrating Attacks and having the Pet deal the killing blows.

I certainly have more builds (like the Undead Slayer build and my Alliance battle build), but these are the ones that come to mind.

Off the top of my head I think my attributes come out to something like:
    Expertise 10 + 1
    Wilderness Survival 11 + 1
    Marksmanship 10 + 1 + 2
(sometimes I subtract and stick points into Smiting)

    1. Penetrating Attack
    2. Troll Unguent
    3. Poison Arrow (sometimes Barrage)
    4. Whirling Defense
    5. Distracting Shot
    6. Kindle Arrows
    7. free slot (usually has a cap in it, other times barbed trap, judge's insight, hunter's shot)
    8. Rebirth

I play my Ranger with my Mesmer buddy and henchmen, so I play sort of jack-of-all-trades and do a little bit of everything--damage, interrupt, condition. Not a lot of expert skill synergy or anything, but I deal decent damage and keep myself alive. I enjoy it anyway and that's important. Been trying to experiment more lately so who knows what I'll come up with, but this build is nice and mellow and works for me. Trapping is something I'd like to get into though...

    1. Poison Arrow[Elite]
    2. Kindle Arrows
    3. Dual Shot
    4. Distracting Shot
    5. Savage Shot
    6. Whirling Defense/Storm Chaser
    7. Troll Ungent
    8. Resurrection Signet/Rebirth/Resurrect

    Expertise: 11
    Wilderness Survival: 15
    Marksmanship: 11

    Poisonous Longbow of Defense
    15>50

Poison Arrow on everyone and Kindle Arrows + Dual Shot to take down casters. Savage and Distracting Shot to interrupt. Been using it in PvE nearly always.

    12 axe mastery
    split between expertise and wilderness

    eviscerate
    executioner's
    penetrating blow
    cyclone axe
    troll
    whirling defense
    capture signet
    rez

For general purpose, this is a nice melee build. When I have to tank, I take away executioner's and penetrating and replace them with more defensive stances. I can also lower axe mastery to 9 and put in enough points so tactics reaches 9 (I have a 9 tactics req shield, +45 hp -2 dmg in stance, took forever to get the 5 bleached shells needed for it :P )

It's served me well throughout all of prophecies and part of cantha (switching to beastmaster and r/a randomly in cantha).

    Expertise - 9+1
    Wilderness Survival - 5+1
    Marksmanship - 12+1+3
    Communing - 8

Brutal Weapon - +10 damage for 13 seconds (including Barrage)
    Distracting Shot - Interrupt
Needling Shot - 21 damage and instant recharge if foe <50% health (very nice)
Barrage (Elite) - +17 damage (+10) to all foes struck
Throw Dirt - A little defense against warriors and assasins
Troll Ungent - +6 Regen, not great but enough for most situations.
    Cap Signet
    Res Signet

Probably could be tweeked a bit, but serves me well. I have always liked Barrage, and Needling Shot is awesome. Rapid fire damage after foe is down to <50%. Mostly 5 energy skills and very energy efficient, and a fair amount of damage.

    Suggestions welcome,

I might take out Barrage and try to take better advantage of those communing points. Union for instance, or Shelter, since increased communing increases their duration only, not their direct effect. You could potentially then take out Throw Dirt and use a different elite in its place. Broadhead Arrow has some use in pve, and would make enemy monks easier to drop. Quickshot is also a favorite of mine, but not all that necessary since you're bringing Needling.

Your built seems to be a good PvP one.
