Amen! The best thing you can do if you're starting to draw is to draw from life as much as possible. I'm no expert, but it's common sense really. You want to draw your cartooned version of some thing from real life, learn how to draw the real life version of said thing first. It might be discouraging at first, but practice. Everything does get better with practice. :DOriginally Posted by Derrick the Nomad
Backgrounds are perhaps the "cream on the cake" to a composition. A figure needs ground to stand on, it can not simply float in space. A shadow under the figure or having mountains in the background can greatly enhance the drawing. If you put more detail and fill up more space on the paper your drawing will be eye-catching.

Copy comic books. Comic books give u good ideas especially on exagerating/changing human proportions which is important if you want to try chibi art. Comics also give good ideas on how to draw action scenes and perspective which can prove to be difficult if copying from real life.
Well ofc, drawing from real life is equally important - but definitely not better than drawing from comic books.
Most importantly start now and dont stop![]()

1.) Go to art school
2.) Draw everyday objects like folded cloth, skirt, pants on or off people
3.) Draw people, go to art school if you have to draw nekkid people without being looked at as a pervert.
4.) Go to the beach, it has everything from hot tomatoes to beached whales

Setting prodigies aside, you cannot be creative if you don't know the basics.
I never learned the basics, therefore my art suffers.

I disagree with that statement. Chibi drawings are a distortion of realism. To distort realism, you must first know realism.Well ofc, drawing from real life is equally important - but definitely not better than drawing from comic books.

Never go to the Eatpoo Art forums. They'd eat you alive for the silliness you just said.Originally Posted by powercozmic

If you don't plan the background from the start, don't draw it at all.
