Low FPS on my new system

I recently upgraded to a new computer:

Pentium D 3.0ghz dual core
Geforce 6800(plain 6800) 256 bit and 256 memory
ASUS P5L-MX
2 GB ddr2 memory (6 something)
Creative XFI Xtreme Music
win xp sp2

Now I just want to know if anyone has a similar system like mine. And want to ask the usual FPS you have. I tested mine on kamadan its usually 10-20 fps. Is this right? Ive turned evrything on the lowest setting and it keeps me like that sometimes going to 60 fps then down again. Ive installed 96.89 driver then 84.56 both whql but still the same performance. Is 10-20 fps normal? I tried the nosound option it did give a a slight boost but isnt creative soundcard increase the speed because its not an onboard one? Im kinda stumped on this. also I tried the heapsize option and set it to 1024000 still nothing

FPS in town depends on how many players are standing in front of you. I can stand in kamadan with 100 people in front of me and get 15 or less fps, or stare at a wall and get over 70 fps. It all depends on the action in front of your character.

Testing FPS in a town is not the best place as it's always going to be worse than outside unless you are the only one in the town. If it does that outside as well then you have a problem.

Temperature slows almost all of the components of a computer down, so the cooler it is the better it will work.

Oh, and shutdown all the stuff in the background. Instant messengers, tell your virus scanner to ignore gw.exe and gw.dat
I don't have an Nvidia card so I can't tell you what options to adjust in it for best performance with guildwars so maybe someone else can help with that.

Anti-Aliasing is a big performance hit on most cards, on mine it cuts the fps in half if not more. At 2x in Kamadan I can get 1 fps. Seriously. At 4x it takes me 10 seconds just to reset it back to none :) At least in windowed mode it does.

Good news: it's a software bug and it happens to a lot of people since Nightfall came out.

Hmmm..I'm running
Athlon 3000+
Geforce 6800
1.5 Gb ram

So we are fairly similar in our configuration. I'm running AA at 2x, everything maxed (can't remember the resolution, but I have a 17" monitor so it's not that high because stuff gets too small), and average 45 FPS when out in the field battling. In towns, that does drop, but not a great deal, probably averaging 25 or so FPS.

What do you average in a mission?

And yes, I have no viruses, trojans, spyware or any other crap (except Guild Wars) on my computer, I have updated all drivers, reinstalled the system and defragmented the Guild Wars data file.

Nightfall, that's the word you are looking for. Anyway, for reference:

1. Getting it in no chapters, except when in crowded outposts.
2. Performance seems consistent over approximately 2 hours of play.
3. My computer specs are also far higher than recommended for Nightfall (Laptop and desktop)

So ... is it a software bug? Or is it simply crowded outposts? Or maybe a buggy video driver? It could be any of a number of things. If it were a software bug though, I would expect that we'd be seeing a LOT more posts about it.

Then please, if you are convinced it is a software bug, report it in the Bugs forum or send ArenaNet a support ticket regarding it. However, for the record, I am not convinced it is a software bug with Guild Wars given the rather small sample size reporting it. More likely we will find some form of commonality between users reporting it that indicate a similar driver (Latest drivers != best drivers in all cases) or other configuration similarity.

Sounds like your video card is overheating, that would be my guess. Open up the case and blow out the dust.. do it outside so that it doesn't just suck the dust back in.

If that doesn't work reinstall your video driver.

I just saw your post Katya, and I'm in agreement with you, if the things I posted above don't help, then it could be a conflict or something. *shrugs*
