Tyria (planet) has same moon as Earth?

    Not much to say here...

Run over to Kamadan, and check out the moon to the West...
The moon (the near side at least) is the same as ours... in the real world...

Is this developers just cutting corners- or maybe something totally outrageous?

First off, Tyria is not a planet - it's a piece of land. Sort of like how Europe is a continent, separate from Asia and Africa.

Second, why does the moon in a fantasy world HAVE to be different from our own moon? Is that a design flaw? No. Familiar references in fantasy worlds are meant to create a sense of realism. That these worlds and races might have existed once upon a time.

(P.S. And 3rd, Kamadan is not part of Tyria, it's part of Elona (a different continent than Tyria)

Tyria has a Dual meaning, it can refer to both the continent of tyria, and the world as a whole.

Ah - didn't know that. Now I know

I still stand by the rest of what I said though ... (except the P.S. now, that appears to also be refuted by the fact that Tyria can mean the world as a whole...)

The continent of Tyria is often referred to as the "Namesake continent" for that reason. Just thought I'd add that.

This subject has been brought up a couple of times, once pointed out by Quintus before Nightfall, if I remember right.

I'll avoid giving any of my ideas on why Tyria has the same moon... they're a bit too... barmy.
There's no shame in asking questions. Ask away at the Newcomer and Questions Forum for GW2. GW1 archive here.

Quantum translocation. Last time I brought this up, the thread turned into an in-depth discussion of String Theory and Quantum Implosion. I've actually been looking for that thread, with little success.

still there are some differences if you look carefully at the picture below, at least compared to the moon where I live anyway.

However what I find more interesting is how people where I live have the exact same face as my monk in the picture.

Ok, its a freakin moon. What is the only image of the moon Anet has, our moon, i.e. Earth's moon. I don't think Anet has been to Jupiter to see what their moons look like to use them, so therefore they use the graphical image of the only moon they could possibly only know of, the Earth's moon. Lore is one thing, going nuts over a similarity between real life and game life is kinda a bit much. Its a game, chill out, so what they used the graphical representation of Earth's moon....what, you expect Anet to fly out into space and get a glimpse of another moon?

Eh, as I recall, Bethseda used fictional moons for their Elder Scrolls games. Moon graphics that were totally unlike the RL moon.

I would chalk this up to laziness on the part of their art department.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on, but when I find out, I'll be more confused than ever.
