Hi
As part of the weekly all mesmer team meets, a group of us decided to give the new skills a try. Where else to test them is that traditional mesmer no go zone of the DoA. I dont think this will allow more mesmers in teams, but hopefully it demonstrates the new found capability of this profession.
The team faced a number of build challenges, but we ended up running a shadow form tank with mimicry to extend SF so they could survive.
The other mesmers ran variations on Mor+Cry of Pain for damage. We had two mesmer/monks to provide prot an heal. The idea was to use as many Mesmer skills as possible, so there were no nukes, no SS just the secondary profession skills needed to survive.
Fighting to the city
Note the killing power. Most mobs did not survive longer than 3 seconds if agro was right
First part of the quest complete

Thats really impressive. great work.
nice, it's just sad that some professions can only get invovled in these areas by doing these mono-class parties... hopefully people can work out builds that will allow classes to be interchangeable more readily within mixed groups one day... although i'm sure anet will continually manage to misbalance skills to avoid that happening... still at least mesmers prove once again that anything is possible no matter how many times they get shafted...
i know i got into a rant but i do really like seeing things like this, it's the only light left in GW... proving the mainstream community wrong :P
I really hust dont know what to say. Absolutly amazing x 1trillion :O
Can i just assume that 'new found capabilities' translates to 'spamming via echo Lightbringers Gaze/Cry of Pain with the optional Intensity onto a group of stupid enemies agroed around a tank?
Tbh i'm not impressed... City of Tor'que is by far the easiest of the 4 areas and these new PvE skills are obviously making things a little too easy if they let DoA mobs survive for 3 seconds.
Nuking is causing lots of AoE damage quickly... it doesn't have to involve Meteor Showers. So by using Cry of Pain/Lightbringers Gaze echoed repeatadly i would say you are nuking. You converted the Obsidian Tank into a Mesmer equivilent and nuked using armour ignoring AoE attacks with Lightbringer bonus damage amplified further by Intensity... its about as cookie cutter as you can get.
There are and were two points to this. Firstly let some people have some fun. and secondly to demonstrate that mesmers can do some of the hardest areas of the game.
Before this attempt we easily did the first room in foundry and would have been able to do more, except we had't really expected to go any further there so did'nt bring the pet/res thing. We survived all but the last wave in gloom, which was more down to agro slip than anything so I know the other areas are possible.
All PvE boils down to hold aggro with something, blow it up with something else and make sure people dont die in the process.
It's how to adapt a class to fit a role specialised for another class that is the trick, and therein the fun. Which when it boils down to it is the whole point.
For example the tank was'nt an Obs flesh tank at all, but borrowed elites from the other team members to ensure they survived long enough.
We all stack skills to buff their effects more, stacking these new ones and mixing in with skills that are already there so this is no different to making a normal build.
What I would suggest is if you think you can improve the build, then feel free to try and post it up here. I look forward to seeing the improvements.

What exactly are you trying to prove? That DoA can be done using alternate methods?
You adapted to the area by just making builds to nuke everything as fast as possible using the new overpowered PvE only skills. Then try to pass it off as you having actually done something impressive. Do it without them next time and i'll actually be impressed.
And how the hell are people suppose to post improvements to it when we don't even know what IT is? We know IT involves lots of Cry of Pain and some sort of tank, since it doesn't involve Obs. Flesh it could only of been Shadow Form...
I'm waiting for the trip that doesn't involve overpowered PvE only skills. Considering the only build we can see pretty much revolves around it i think i'm entitled to say that. Lets see how far you get when you can't echo/a-echo Cry of Pain...
Seriously... all this proves is that Cry of Pain can be abused and doesn't need the 'buff' so many mesmers are whining about.
