    Favorable Winds [Gust] Recruitment Thread

Favorable Winds [Gust] is a Kurzick PvP guild. We accept avid PvPers and also PvE players looking to get in on the PvP aspect of the game. This is a place where they can learn.

    Quick Facts:
-Favorable Winds [Gust] Is a new guild aimed at at a relaxed form of both PvP and PvE.
-We do offer Rated GvG but only to a select group of members that we deem experienced.
-Favorable Winds [Gust] offers PvE players a chance to learn about PvP in Guildwars and ofers them a chance to play Unrated GvG, HA, and TA.
-We are not PvP Elitists and will NOT accept them into the guild.
-Our members are mostly from U.S. timezones
-We do use vent and ask that those applying are willing to use it.

Below is our guild statement that will tell you (more in-depth) about our guild.

[The Following as stated by guild leader Tsunami Rain who is a large part of the guildwarsguru community]

    Guild Statement:

"Favorable Winds is a mixed PvP/PvE guild that is centered around helping PvE players become better PvP players. We do not allow elitist to take part in our guild (PvP an PvE elitists) as we feel that they do not contribute much more than just idle talk. We will help those who are willing to PvP hone their skills and get better as long as they have the resolve to do so. We believe that growth in PvP is only limited by the individual's resolve to get better.

Although we are more PvP oriented, that doesn't mean that we condole playing PvE. In fact, I myself am a farmer and I promote PvEing through my farming guides. We achieve a balance of PvE and PvP in our guild by hosting "PvE Days" which are days that we set aside our PvP equipment and go out and have some fun in PvE. This includes playing through different chapters to progress PvE characters, capping skills, furthering our titles, etc.

Our main focus in PvP is to play GvG. Favorable Winds has a core team that GvG's on a regular basis. However, by having core GvG team it doesn't mean that we leave our less experienced members out. We encourage our less experienced members to learn different professions and to take part in GvG along-side our core team.

Although we mainly focus on GvG, we also like to experiment in Alliance Battles, Team Arena, and Heroes Ascent. We have come up with unique builds such as "Ghetto Spike", "Starburst Spike", and a unique Passive and Agressive Trapping build for AB. We love to experiment but that doesn't mean that we don't love to run ballanced builds. In fact, we love our glad points and we practice our skills and differentbuilds in RA and TA when not GvGing.

We help our members learn more by offering "PvP Profession Days". These are events where we take a look at a specific profession and we go over it from top to bottom (ex. what are good builds, why this profession is effective, skills, equipment, tactics, etc). At the end of the lecture we take our members into various areas to practice different aspects of the profession (ex. for ranger we would practice interrupting, kiting, etc).

Although it seems like we require our members to be active all the time and be willing and able to play when needed, we tend to be a lot more relaxed than most guilds. We understand that people have obligations and that real life comes before Guild wars. Our relaxed sense is what sets us apart from most other guilds. So if you can GvG here and there we're happy. You may not be a core GvG member but we're more than happy to let you GvG whenever you like.

Although we are still considered a new guild, we are working our way up and we intend to stay there.

Thank You for taking interest in Favorable Winds [ Gust ]"
    ~Tsunami Rain

hi, I'm trying to get into slightly more competative PvP but so far have only been doing AB. I am not an elitist but just want to learn some basic tactics about GvG and HA and maybe gain a few ranks in the process. as instructed I will put in an application onto your forums right after I've finished this post.

A small update but a very important one: We are going to start recruiting more Euro players and set up separate GvG times so that everyone may have a chance to join in. Currently the GvG times are at 3pm Est and 7pm Est.

Update to New Statement. Please Observe.

Below is our guild statement that will tell you (more in-depth) about our guild.

[The Following as stated by guild leader Tsunami Rain who is a large part of the guildwarsguru community]

    Guild Statement:

"Favorable Winds [ Gust ] is a very eccentric guild. People ask me to describe what kind of guild I run and the only answer that I can give is this: I run…something…something very interesting.

Here’s how it began: After much thought, I had come up with a stable way to keep the fun and relaxed PvE aspect of a guild (group missions, farming, friendly chatting, etc.) while having a tight knit and powerful core GvG team all in one guild. After my first attempt at a “relaxed PvP/PvE” (which is what I originally called this type of guild) I found that the concept worked great until the school year came around. It was during this time that I realized that people just don’t have enough time to fully commit themselves to a harsh GvG schedule without cracking under the pressure of school. I was at the point where I just wanted to stop the guild, however, I was suppressed when the members of my guild stuck behind me and didn’t leave but rather pressured me into finding an alternate solution instead of disbanning. It is for this reason that this guild (Favorable Winds [ Gust ]) still exists today. Although these past few months my concept of this guild has changed, one thing has remained the same. Guild Loyalty.

As I stated earlier, the original idea was to have a relaxed guild. What do I mean by relaxed? To me, a “good” PvP (especially a GvG) guild requires experience which requires a lot of training which in turn requires time; time and experience that some players just don’t have. My guild is willing to help those less experienced (or for that matter those who don’t have experience at all) at PvP become better players (all we ask is that our members have the WILL to learn because where there’s a will there is a way) and eventually have them be able to take part in our GvG matches during our GvG season.

Now when I say “GvG season” that may raise some red flags. It is true. Originally I had planned that this guild play GvG all year long. I soon found out that I, like many of our members, just don’t have time to commit to that. I have revised the way that this guild works so that our “GvG season” so to speak is during the summer break when most of us have the most amount of time to commit ourselves to it. In fact, we have time periods before the GvG season to practice with our members and form a core team. However that doesn’t mean that we don’t GvG in the off-season as well. We do play GvG and PvP for that matter in the off-season, just not as vigorously as we do during the GvG season.
    '
For those of you that are interested in how this "seasonal" process works view these notes:
    __________________________
    The Favorable Winds Seasonal Cycle:

    -Normal School Year-
    Fall (1st mod)->Fall Break->Fall (2nd mod)->Winter Break->Spring (1st mod)->Spring Break->Spring (2nd mod)->Summer Break->

    -Gust Schedule-
    PvE Guild->PvE Guild->PvE Guild->Transition Period1->PvE/PvP Guild->PvP/GvG Training->Transition Period2->GvG Guild->

    Explained:

PvE Guild - When I say PvE Guild that doesn't mean that there we won't PvP it just means that our main focus won't be on pvp but a more relaxed sense in which we won't care if GvG happens or not. If it happens it happens if it doesn't well too bad. That is the basic concept here.

Transition Period1 - This is a transition from our relaxed PvE state. During this transitioning period we will become more focused on PvP and will start having a couple more regular PvP events instead of scattered events like during the "PvE Guild" stage. During this stage we encourage our members to try out PvPing if they haven't and start to get people into the habit of PvPing. During this time there won't be any serious GvGing (mostly the same "just for fun" GvGing that we would do during our "PvE Guild" stage.

PvE/PvP Guild - This is the stage in which we will start to pick up the pace. Of course some people will still be in school and with finals around some people won't be PvPing. However, we will continue to create more PvP related events and start to get back into the habit of training to become a better PvP player.

PvP/GvG Training - This is the critical stage. This is when the REAL training begins. Those hoping to make the cut (become a core team member) will start training hard and GvG's will become a regular event during this short period of time. Note- Highly recommended that those wishing to play GvG during the summer start training during this time period.

Transition Period2 - During this time everyone (or rater everyone who cares) has begun training themselves for the upcoming GvG season. There will be regular GvG's but not as often as in the last stage as there is still school going on. Most of the training that goes on during this period of time will be self-training so you can train as little or as much as you want. Note- Core selections will be made at the end of this stage.

GvG Guild - This marks the beginning of our GvG season. GvG's will happen multiple times each week and PvP will become the focus of our guild. As always, we are a relaxed guild but we do strive to become better. Our main focus will be on GvG and gaining back (hopefully raising) all of the rating that we lost during the off season. The last couple weeks of this season will be a cool down sub-stage in which people will be more busy getting ready for school and spending more time with their real life friends and such.
    __________________________

I know that all of this talk about GvG probably sickens some people who just want to PvE. I myself am known for playing PvE and still consider myself a PvE’er. I have created numerous farming guilds, videos, and am currently a moderator on the Guildwars Guru forums moderating the PvE/Farming builds sections among others. I am also known for throwing out the merchant/farming guild concept a long time back. But enough about me, back to the subject at hand. For most of the school year, we are in PvE mode. Although we still have some PvP events, we are much more relaxed during this period in time as I understand that college and school in general is difficult and demanding. Another point that I want to come across is that when I say that this is a relaxed guild, I mean to say that I don’t care if you can come on only during the weekends, or if you’re gone for a couple weeks or even a couple months. As long as you tell us what’s up and leave a reason why you will be gone I’m completely fine with it. I understand that real life comes first to gaming and if that doesn’t make me “hard-x-core”, I’m fine with that.

Let’s talk about restrictions and limits in the recruitment process. I don’t have them. End of story. I look at each person as different and unique. I will not put an age limit on my guild because I know that age has nothing to do with maturity (however maturity is one thing that I like). I will not limit this guild’s membership to just single applications. Once you are in, you are welcome to invite your friends and family. I just ask that you use sound judgment when asking for an invite. Now this doesn’t mean that you, your friends, siblings, or other family members are off the hook once they get invited to the guild. Everyone’s behavior is monitored and I am not at all hesitant to kick someone’s brother or sister if they act up. But in truth, we aren’t a very strict guild when it comes to behavior. We understand that this is a game and a little competition and peer pressure is always welcomed.

After reading all of this, you may be wondering how this guild holds up under pressure in PvP. I just want to say that in our first few months of GvG (taking a PvE oriented team from scratch and turning it into a GvG team) we have succeeded in beating a few of those “Well Established” guilds and have gone VoD with some of those “Big Name” guilds.

After all that I have said, I just want to say this: TAKE THAT WORLD. My guild ain’t dead yet and I’ve put together a roster of GvG players that no one has ever heard of!"

    Thanks for reading~
