I'd forgotten that. Her typical wooden, petulant demeanor was actually just right for that.

It seems Universal's suing of The Asylum over American Battleships has done nothing to keep their films off SyFy, sadly. The UK side is currently showing ****s at the Center of the Earth, which both myself and my Dad assumed was mockbusting Iron Sky. Until I looked it up. Apparently - and this is a bit of a "wait, what?" moment - it's actually based on Wolfenstein 3D instead, right down to having a robot Hitler. Convenient, seeing as it's coincided with IS's release.

I don't think I'll be watching it either way.

Now see, I come back and everyone is talking about Kristen Stewart. lol My boyfriend and I are looking at things to see today, and Magic Mike seems to have good ratings. I don't know though...lol Anyone seen it and want to elaborate?

I wouldn't mind seeing Snow White and the Huntsman, and I'm glad that even Rob said it wasn't a terrible movie. Rob, have you crossed over to the dark side? We have cookies!

No one commented on my Spider-Man review. The nerve!!!

Also, shawn, I don't knowk where you live, but I live in America, and we have freedom of speech here. That means everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and my opinion is that Twilight is a great movie. I was also using smilies and "hahahaha"s when addressing Rob about him laughing at that one part in Ted, which meant that I wasn't being cynical about it, I was also laughing. Forgive me for having taste in something other than what many find superior like a predictable story about a kid wizard.

I could use a cooky or two, movies no longer make sense! I was 100% sure that Snowwhite was totally going to suck before I went to see it, and that Prometheus would be awesome. But after hearing all the reviews, I decided against my own judgement to ignore Prometheus and see Snowwhite instead. And all fun and Kristen Steward bashing aside, I had a great time. It was a good movie. Not a timeless classic, but certainly one I would have enjoyed as a young lad. This doesn't make sense! This is anarchy! Cats and dogs, living together... mass hysteria!

    Also, another movie review:

    Inkheart - 5/10
(This movie just couldn't hold my attention)

I know what you're all thinking: "Rob, you can't possibly rate a movie after only seeing 1/4 of it!" And you are probably right. But this movie lost me after the first 10 minutes, and it didn't get any better half an hour later.

When I heard about this fantasy movie, starring Brendan Fraser and Andy Serkis, my first reaction was: "Why haven't I heard about this movie before?" And my second reaction was: "Its not exactly an original premise, but maybe the execution is good...?"

Brendan Fraser is a so called Silver Tongue, a man who can bring things from books to life by reading them out loud. Apparently at some point in his life, he accidentally sent his wife into the book-world, and unleashed some villains from it. It almost sounds like Neverending Story and Last Action Hero had a baby. And if it sounds a bit dull and unoriginal, it is. The movie has a real problem making you like any of the characters (and it introduces a lot of them), and it feels like a constant stream of plot exposition. 15 minutes into the movie I finally caught myself taking a deep breath, when a conversation between two characters isn't none stop exposition of stuff that happened in the past. This movie really indulges in not showing you stuff, but explaining a f*ck load of it, without it ever becoming interesting. After half an hour me and a female friend simply decided to switch it off. It was hard to stay interested.

On the positive side, when you see a ferret, it's not CG, which is kind of a breath of fresh air these days. And the movie uses a lot of real locations and sets. But none of it really stands out. And none of it is captivating or thrilling. But atleast Brendan Fraser lost his big gut back from what I remember of The Mummy 2. Is this man permanently stuck in B-movies now?

Andy Serkis (Yes, Golem! Preeeecioussss), is the bad guy. He doesn't do a bad job, but with the PG rating its hard to make him feel menacing. When Brendan Fraser, his daughter, and an old woman are captured by Serkis, he threatens to kill the old woman. Here's an idea: How about you actually kill her, to show that you mean business, and then threaten to kill the daughter as well? God, this must be the softest villain ever. And on top of that, it is never quite clear what the villains want, or what the point of the whole story is. Why should we care?

I just stopped watching, and I'm sure there are much worse movies that deserved that treatment that I DID watch all the way through. But this was just so dull.

    EDIT:

Further more, there's a real problem with giving your main character the power to do anything by speaking a few words, and not explaining to the audience what the limitations are (if any at all). Why should this guy be in any danger? Its like giving your main character the option to wish anything he wants; it makes you wonder why he doesn't just wish the movie was over... or why doesn't he wish for a gun? (I'm looking at you Never Ending Story 2!) That really is a big plot hole, especially if for some reason the main character keeps using this power in ways contrary to what the audience is thinking he should do.

Inkheart never stops to explain why he can't just "silver-tongue" the bad guys into oblivion. I'm pretty sure I remember the bad guys saying that Brendan Fraser had the power to instantly destroy them with a few words. Why is this guy in any danger again? You have to explain these things movie! Especially if you want your audience to go along for the ride.

And poor Brendan Fraser just doesn't seem capable of carrying this movie. He was fine in The Mummy, so maybe its just sloppy writing. But in this movie its not really clear if he's supposed to be the protagonist, because no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't see him as a hero or a main character.

The home video release of Act of Valor (that one starring active Navy SEALs) has "Tom Clancy presents" slapped on the box. I'm guessing the movie bombed harder than a world-ending orbital strike in the cinema, right?

Taste is not entirely subjective, regardless of what people would lead you to believe.
It's also unrelated to free speech. I'm not saying you're not allowed to like it, I'm asking if it's ever occurred to you that there's a reason it's so hated by those who are educated in that field.

    This.

Someone said she liked Twilight but said it was a "guilty pleasure", as in she knows what it's worth. I can fully respect that, I have my own guilty pleasures too.

My problem with the Twilight thing is the obsession. It's not just that people like Twilight (whether as a guilty pleasure or in earnest), but they OBSESS over it and some take it so far as to let it affect their daily lives. I have trouble respecting people who can get that into something, especially something that's being sold to you.

At least they used to. Like most things, I think most people are over the fad by now.

But wait, the last movie isn't out yet.

I'm ok with some people obsessing, what bugged me I guess is that it seemed almost all the female population was freaking over this, and I don't even get why. I get why people obsess over Harry Potter, but Twilight eludes me. It's like the thing is filled with catnip, but I can't for the life of me find it.

I think harniq found the secret Twilight catnip and rolled himself in it.

And yet. I remember stubbornly avoiding getting involved in the Beatles' obsession. Everyone raved about them; I refused to listen solely on that account. Years later I found I'd missed some really good music.

I'm not creating a parallel here between Twilight and The Beatles; merely pointing out that sometimes, obsession and fad-ism has its basis in legitimacy.
