Rep farming: am I doing something wrong?

Ok. I've looked around for quite some time and I know what the majority of people use for getting the best reputation farming. My main problem is that I seem to have the absolute worst luck when it comes to the hunt ranks.

People quote anywhere in the range of 4-6k for clearing Varajar Fells, but after killing every single enemy on the map I'm lucky if I can get 2-3k at the most.

I've kept rampage bonuses up, but no matter if I talk to shrines early in the run or later on after getting into the 100-175 kill range, I never seem to get the higher hunt ranks. I've done multiple runs in which I've never gone above hunting rank 1, or I finally get to rank 2 once 90% of the enemies are cleared. I have on occasion made it to rank 3 and 4, but only very rarely and nearly always right at the end when it does me no good.

Is there something I'm missing? I've got 8 more sets of armor that I plan on getting across my characters, and I'd like to find out if there's anything I've been doing wrong so that I can fix it x_x

its all luck in regards to bonuses. The first "asura farm " I did , I got about 5500 points and I was pretty inefficient in my method. The netx run I did I got a little over 3k ; thing is I didnt get lucky with the bonuses like in the first run.

We need to quantitatively research which "random bonuses" are given out per each 25 kills, both handed out directly to you by the game and handed to you by the shrine NPCs.

It DOES seem hit and miss, however. The best approach is to max your bounty rank before killin ANY bosses, since you get more and more per rank, I think. Also if you manage to get a Hunt Rampage while you're maxxed and then kill a boss, you get bank for points.

Again, we need some quantitative research.

I'm not getting that either. I did 2 of those runs, and come up with the same figures as you. I think people are just exagerating it, just to make the grind seem easier than it actually is.

I have got about 6800 norn points at my best run in Farajar Fells, while the worst whole run gave me something about 2800 points.

There's about 420 enemies to slain there and they are quite tight packed too so keeping double blessings up after you got it is relatively easy for a long time, only when you have almost vanquished them all you may loose it.

Also there are numerous shrines there... after 150 kills you got 100 rep points per shrine too...

last Asura run I did, I didnt get a single rampage bonus and I was at Asura lvl 2 till about 225 kills. Conversely my first run I got rampage bonus at 100 kills and maintained it till around 300 ish

Much of it is luck of the blessings. I did a Varajar Fells run where I got rampage early and managed to keep it on for almost the entire zone. It helps to discover a path through the zone that keeps you constantly moving on to new mobs without dead-ending and backtracking.

People only remember the one good one out of the many horrible ones. Its jut the nature of bragging. The people here are giving very realistic ranges for these farms.

@Stimm and samspoker: Rampage bonuses aren't a problem. I get them often. I'd rather get a Level 2 hunt rank though, since getting 2 points per kill for level 1 with a rampage is still less than getting 3 points per kill with a level 2 rank and no rampage. It also allows me to go get mobs in corners/dead ends and get drops, rather than leaving drops behind and rushing to the next mob just so I can maintain my 2 points per kill.

And I guess if it is just all luck on which bonuses you get, I can only hope that my luck finally improves on at least one run per character or that hard mode comes out and makes point acquisition a little faster. Either that, or I need to drag a vanguard, norn, and asuran bounty NPC into the secret lair of the snowmen with me.

    My pointers are :

    * Kill bosses at the end, unless you have a boss bounty active ( worth 50 x hunting rank ).

    * Talk to all the shrine tenders you meet while in the 25-75 kill range ( when hunting rank is tremendous to be given ), then only after clearing the map - it is the medium figures where the bonuses are least efficient.

    * If there are monsters on a map that cause real trouble for your build / team, do not bother with them - time = points, so unless you have maxed hunting rank then slow foes hurt your progress and your fun level.
