    Strange Latency Bug

    Greetings Everyone,

    Running Guild Wars fine up until a week ago, when mid play it started to lag out. Provided pings of 70,000 and so forth. I quit it, presumed it was some one on the home network or a program on my PC. it continued to happen, whilst every other game i have ran without any lag what so ever. I could play CS:S or Company of Heroes, and they'd both run fine, but booting up Guild Wars caused my ping in game to shoot well into the thousands. It's not a firewall / antivirus issue and i have tried doing a complete re-install with no success.

    No idea, completly stuck for ideas. Any help would be grand.

    I know you said it's not a firewall issue but hear me out.

    If you have a software firewall the potential exists that it is a problem. There were several updates last week. Software-based firewalls don't tend to like it when programs (especially GW) auto-update. It is likely that the firewall decided it should block GW.exe even though you have an "allow" command in it. Go into your firewall's settings and remove the command for "GW.exe'.

    The next time you run GW, your firewall should ask you if you want to allow it to run or not. Simply tell it yes and see what happens.

    There could be other issues, but try there first.

    OMG, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this latency problem, I still haven't found any solution to this problem, but what you can try is to call your ISP, or even check your windows firewall.

    If any solution works please tell me, I'm desperate to play lol.

    Here's a post from a while back where Chthon walks through a network diagnosis using tracert and pathping. You won't need to do the very first part with "netstat -na", since the server IP you're connecting to is now available by hovering your mouse pointer over the network dot in-game. Running the diagnosis may help you identify where your bottleneck is.

    Thanks for the help guys. Im also working with the NCSoft support thing, allthough there not proving to be much help, even though i told them i had bypassed my switch and plugged directly into the modem to test, they still insisted on knowing my switch model & number.

    Anyways, i know it's not a firewall issue because i can disable and turn off any and all firewalls, antivirus & antispyware/adware and the issue still occurs. Another interesting development is that i can recieve instant messages and send them, allthough Guild Wars doesn't recognise that im sending them, i receieve them instantly and so does the person who im sending too, the whole while i still can not move.

    I have also performed a -diag to test some things of my own, and im making all the right connections just fine... with a ping of 200

    Ok, that sounds like a different problem.

    Are you having trouble w/ lag, graphics freezes, or both?

    It was a lag / latency issue, nothing to do with my PC.

    However! After making multiple emails to both my ISP and NCSoft i appear to have fixed the problem myself. Downloaded every file with the -image command and everything is running fine. I am confused but that worked for me.

    Scratch that, for about 5 minutes then all was well. After an instance change, it all went again. So, back to the drawing board.

    NCSoft concluded that it was nothing on there end or my client, and that my ISP is to blame. My ISP claims there is some congestion and a few bugs with the servers at the moment, which should be cleared at the end of the month, however im not depending on this as an answer as it wouldn't make sense that it would only affect guild wars.

    There are a number of different ways a game can communicate over the internet, so it's possible that several games work fine and one doesn't and the problem is network related (when I say network, I don't mean your home network alone). The fact that your ISP mentioned having some "issues" is kind of suspicious.....

    While that is true, im not having issues with any other games. Just Guild Wars. That said, it still semi-works, as in the instant message / whisper system works, just the walking around part lags out.
