    No mouse pointer ingame

    Hello,
I've searched around and can't find a solution yet so I figured I'd ask here. Just bought a new laptop and installed guildwars. Everything works great except for the fact that I don't get a mousepointer. Not in the logon screen, not in the toon select screen, not ingame. I can sometimes blindly navigate my invisible pointer around but I can't seem to travel yet using "m."
Laptop is running Winblows Vista, Pentium Core 2 Duo, 4 Gigs ram, Radeon HD2600. I've updated all my vista junk and am using a recent catalyst driver, though not the newest.
Is this just another Vista DX 10 incompatibility... meaning I should upgrade to XP or have I missed something?
    Suggestions please
    Thanks

Lol, upgrade to xp you say. Oh, I understand what you mean, I'm more laughing at Microsoft than anything. Anyway, I'm not thinking that vista is the problem as it also has DX9, it's only if you actually have a DX10 video card that it will use DX9. Of course, I have had problems with the drivers shutting down my machine from time to time, so if you haven't checked your drivers you may want to (don't ask me how, all I'll be able to tell you is to google it).

Other than that, are you using a mouse or the pad on the laptop? If you are using the pad, might want to try hooking up a mouse to see if this changes anything. I don't know much about computers so that's all I can think of.

Forgot to mention that. I tried a USB mouse and the pad. Same result for both. I am pretty sure the radeon 2600s are DX 10. I'll have to try and run some other directx stuff in vista. I know that there are tons of issues with other games... even old stuff like Diablo II doesn't display right under vista. /sigh

I don't know how it works in Vista, but try pulling your "Hardware Acceleration" setting down one notch from max. It has fixed GW pointer issues for several others.

In XP, you right-click on your desktop, select "Properties", go to the "Settings" tab, select "Advanced", then select "Troubleshooting". The acceleration level slider should be on that tab.

Get the newest driver, download latest version of directx, if that doesn't work, try to force directx 8 rendering- right click shortcut, in target field at the end type -dx8 .

    Update:
I seem to have found my mouse pointer. Tried the -dx8 and that didn't work. SoI tried looking around at windows mouse properties and such. I started unchecking special mouse features like enhanced precision, tail, etc. THat worked, so it seems one if the mouse features in vista isn't compatable with the GW pointer.
Thanks for the responses. Hopefully everything works from here on out. :)

    Confirmed mouse setting issue

I had the same problems occurring when the 'mouse trails' setting was enabled.
Disabling mouse trails has returned the pointer to normal throughout GW

Not Sure if anyone has already mentioned this here, but I thought I'd go ahead and say something about this since I was having the same problem and found a solution.

For me, I had trailing mouse pointers turned on in Windows 7 which was causing my mouse pointer not to show up in Guild Wars, so if you have trailing mouse pointer active, you'll want to go into your mouse properties within windows and uncheck the trails Option. It's under "Pointer Options"

    Happy Thrashing!

LOL, sorry craigwb, I didn't even look at the last post of this thread, just started reading the beginning and decided to post.

At any rate, it definitely works to fix that problem as I can also attest!
