Haven't seen much/any chatter here about Mass Effect 3 here (less than 2 months. bwee). It was announced / found out yesterday that it wont be available on Steam (boooo), and will be distributed via Origin instead (super booooooooo). (EA and Steam make angry faces at each other or something over the DLCs)

The only good bit of news is that it doesn't need an always-on connection to play single player mode.

I cannot *wait* for this game. I've been more hyped for this than GW2 even. I highly recommend people pick up ME1 + ME2 and play em before 3. :D

I'm quite excited too, but having played the previous ones on 360 and not playing on it almost at all any more, my excitement is a bit dampened. I'd like to continue my Sheperds, but the PC version would be superior otherwise. Also, Origin only does blow. News for me. Should have seen it coming, though.

Yeah, there were signs this was going to happen when Dragon Age 2 didn't appear on Steam (again, because of DLC hoodoo). Still, it's sad. And I've heard nothing but bad things about Origin. Blaaaah.

If you wanna play ME3 on PC, then I'd keep an eye out on Steam sales for 1 and 2. Or at least 2, anyway. Between Masseffectsaves.com and an awesome PC tool called "Gibbed" you can pretty much make *your* ME1 Shepard, then it's just a quick frolic through ME2. I'm a big big big fan of games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect on PC as opposed to console.

There's been sales, sure, but I haven't grabbed them. They still wouldn't be my Sheperd, and with the huge backlog of games I have on Steam, I don't I'd have the the drive to play through them enough. Current estimate is that I'll grab it a bit later for a bit cheaper, though not as used, on 360.

Origin = a no buy. I don't care if it's Diablo 3, if D3 is on Origin I wouldn't get it. A new thread about Origin's atrociousness pops up on reddit at least weekly.

I disliked the idea of Steam back in 2003, but it was revolutionary back then. (we have to consider that XBox Live had only launched one year prior) I recall reading an article about Gabe & Valve wanting Cloud gaming even before '03, though, with a failed-to-launch platform called PowerPlay or something. (I forget the name exactly) Anyway, Steam does things that some people don't like, but AFAIK, its data submission is voluntary. Plus, it's not that everything EA does is wrong, but Valve just has so much more goodwill built up with gamers than they have. For instance, Steam allows the community to help translate it into different languages: https://translation.steampowered.com/.

So, in the end, I am surprised that I still haven't bought BF3, and it's all because of Origin. I wouldn't say "Steam or no sale," but I would say "Origin = no buy." Mass Effect 3 is an even worse scenario, but I'm sticking to my guns. Who knows... I'll have regular access to my fiancee's 360 when we get married & move in, so maybe I'll play it on that instead.

I think the only thing that could convince me to get Origin right now would be if my group of RL friends I regularly play online with get BF3 out of nowhere. I haven't messed with Desura, but it seems like a much friendlier, home-grown platform with a focus on mod support. (no idea on its client, though)

If I really want a game, I'll get it. I had to register Demigod, Splinter Cell Conviction, and Portal 2 (despite all 3 bought box). I might end up getting some Origin game just because.

I'm just that terrible at boycotting stuff.
