4 man team with healer, two Spirit Rits and my Para for Protection & pull.
I quit after two zero runs for today. I don't have any in storage, so this will be annoying again.

You need to use a 55 or 600 smite build for this lot.
They hit hard and spam mind freeze along with rust and thier attacks are augmented by conjour.
But you NEED a full group to GET to the kappa, as trying to do a 55 build, the necros in the am fan have a life steal, and the mesmers and necros in the aflicted use enchant stripping.
Drops are retarded as allways, if you kill to many at the same time, you get a lot of zero drops.
Uggg... might just skip this week and just farm for the mini that shall not be mentioned.

As a packrat I keep just about everything non-weapon .....and after all these years I STILL only have 4 of these in storage???? (I have gotten more ecto drops than that!)...

I've spirit spammer 14 so far. awful drop rate, infact i've had more eggnog's drop tha ancients kappa shells.

I have given up as well. Went in with a PUG of 8, I got none, and the team only got 1. Went back with 3 heroes, got 1 shell, and 2 monstrous eyes. Rezoned with hero group and did not get any. Gave up and sold 1 shell for 1.5k (the buyer's asking price)

Went solo SoS and got 14 on 4 runs... so I went in again and got last one on third Kappa mob. Didn't take too long except the going back and forth to rezone.

Apparently, if you have the quest "The Challenge" (or something) active, you only have to worry about the nec afflicted boss and one group of am fah on your way to the turtles, both of which are easily soloable with a spirit spammer. For those of us who have already done the quest, I'd recommend taking a full team of h/h to clear the afflicted mobs on the way, and then flag the whole bunch away when you get to the turtles. Once there, the spirits rip through the mobs with ease.
Got between 1-4 shells per run on my rit, though I kept getting way more fruitcakes than shells. Nothing useful/valuable from Nick as expected...

The other option is to come in from the Nahpui side (a certain quest makes them all friendly) and then move into the Kappa from the top, a slightly longer run, but no afflicted to go through.
The monk with RoJ and those Rits healing away can be a bit of a pain. Any group with 2 Rits (Flesh of My Flesh) might cause some serious annoyance.

I got an average of 3 shells per run using perma-sliver in HM.

Decided to try again today. This time I took a full team H/H with my spirit rit, went through that mesmer boss, flag H/H at that boss location and went on alone. Put down spirits, pull with a long bow, back off and let the spirits ripped through the mobs. Rinse and repeat. I got 18 shells within one and half hour ( 4 runs ), with drop ranging from 0 to 6 without even clearing the Undercity: just the mobs around the ele boss and downstairs where Nick is standing. Just might farm for my other accounts since friends are not coming ( snowed-in ) and bored of those Wintersday quests. Got a lousy non-max gold celestial dagger also.
