I find it funny how often people say that Nich chose a horrible item to farm for... what would you guys (meaning the ones who complain) consider good? Old ascalon items?
I usually end up getting all of the items required for two accounts within a few hours when people complain, I just don't get it. *shakes head and walks away*
horrible items to farm are ones that have a ridiculously low drop rate ...those provision things from a few weeks ago are an example. Or ones that require you to go to an elite area ONLY to get (see gloom seeds)....this week is not bad since the drop rate is ok--they are a cny item so people already know how and where to farm them for that.....cant wait for the smoking remains week--that will be another I will skip due to its horrible drop rate!
I had no problems with them either...but lots of people did since they were in an elite area.
(I had a bunch in storage)
Horrible items are ones that he asks for from limited mobs, (guardian islands) have a low drop rate of the item to begin with, and even asks from them from mobs which drop two items (one a trophy, the other a salvage item).
The salvage items are the worst because they drop so little, even normally.
Also if the mob is very hard to farm from to begin with.
This week's is pretty bad, he's asking for crests from mobs which are only available in 3 major areas, only one of which has a good amount of them for farming.
They're a very hard to farm mob, especially solo. However, we are fortunate in there are two types that drop the items needed, as well as they seem to drop them fairly regularly, even with nick's asking us to gather them.
That's the other thing that really pisses me off about nick with this game, whenever he asks for an item, an item that normally drops with some regularity, the second he asks for it, or not long after, people everywhere are farming for the same items, and the drop rate on said item, or ANY items from that type of mob suddenly become unavailable.
I saw that happen with guardian islands, I saw that with Either cats, and a few others.
The other problem that some of us are having is this IS a Canthan New Year item, and since it's not an easy farm, we don't get a whole lot of them in, so clan leaders in our guilds ask us to turn them in WHENEVER we come across them. Holding onto said items for a full year if they have to, so we can sponsor our clan across several districts, and even be able to support a district when we hop to the last one after ours has finished, and manage to find ones that are still in progress.
If Nick asks for any of the fire island stuff on the list, it then becomes a 'nick, go **** yourself' week.

Hmm, talk about yourself... I've always had a low drop rate on those crests. It's the same low drop rate now.
On the other hand, I've never (never!) had a kirin horn drop for me. And I've done all Luxon quests on a lot of characters. Then, wednesday, I had 4! of them drop for me, 3 of which in one vanquish... And 0 crests...

Well... I am getting better results with the dragons then I did with the either cats or the guardians.
I can actually get enough for all my accounts, AND... I could have enough if Kahlin wanted some for her 3 accounts. (which she doesn't. She says save them, which I will)
The problem is they're hard as hell to farm, I pretty much have to do a lot of careful pulling, and then abandoning kills, because as I've experienced before, if you kill to many in a short period of time, you start getting zero drops.
I usually wait a few minutes after killing 2-3 before going after them again, thus, getting good results.
I got a horn as well. I'd say save that sucker. If nick ever asks for them, and I'm sure he eventually will, they will rank as top #1 worst item EVER!

I ended up getting the whole 20 I needed without too much trouble doing the above. I added PI to the bar to catch dragon stomp, though I'm not sure if it was worth the slot. Fun though.
Given that you only need 5, this was a pretty painless week for anyone without multiple accounts to farm for.
My runs took about 15 minutes to hit about 6 groups (one got killed by the outcast sometimes), and I'd average from 1 to 4 crest drops per run in NM. (2 groups to the left of aurios, then back track through necro outcast boss to the other 4...I skipped the boss usually because it took too long to kill him.)
Still farming but for next canthan new year now.
Not too bad a farm. I had 9 in storage for next years CNY, so used 5 of them. Took me about 3 hours in Silent Surf with 4 H/H to replace those 5 and got 2 on top of that.
The best part was I got a Vampiric Dragon Sword for the effort. Besides this I also have received the Ascalon Razor and a Moss Spider Egg so far. Already bought the spider with Zaisen Gold, so the egg went to a guild mate.
Besides the Travelers Staff and mini Yakkington, is there anything else particularly rare to get from Nick?
On a sort of related subject: I went farming for Ebon Spider Webs for CNY recently. Never had much luck before with full H/H parties only getting 2 with a LOT of farming. This time I still took a full party to clear the way to the spiders and then flagged them on the top of the hill just before the fort. I then soloed the spiders with a R/Rt SoS build. It was slow work, but I never died and got 9 webs in only 2 runs.
I think the Gwen Doll and the rabbit mini are still pretty rare. There's also everlasting versions of the Crate of Fireworks and Cottontail tonics.
