I can't possibly be the only one here who loves reading. I love book recommendations, especially hidden treasures that aren't at the top of the trendy lists.
The princess series from Jim C. Hines is so good. It's a darker twist on classic fairy tales -- so far he's written about Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Ariel, and Red Riding Hood. The books are really well written -- you can find the first two chapters of Red Hood's Revenge on the left sidebar of the site.
The Name of the Wind is another fantastic book. It's the first of a series, and the second is due out March 1st, 2011. I can't wait.
I'm sure I'll think of more, but what about you guys?
Im also a reader, always have been :) Personally i love the Harry Potter books (thats kind of a given) and hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. And also pretty much everything that Dean Koontz has ever written. Its usually mysterious, often something supernatural, and he writes in a way that keep you on edge through the entire books.

I love to read as well. I mostly read history fiction, alternate history, sci-fi and fantasy.
Right now, I'm reading "River God" by Wilbur Smith. It was part of a two-series when I first read it, right now it's part of a four-series... (which is why I am re-reading it). It takes place in ancient Egypt, at the time the Hyksos invaded it. The second book takes place in the "now", and, the thing I adore most, follows the trail of the first book (the pharaoh had to flee, or rather, his wife with his mortal remains and his treasure, and is buried somewhere upstream of the White or Blue Nile, forgot which one), and they are searching for the treasure. Books 3 and 4 I haven't read yet, but I do know they take place in Ancient Egypt again.
I'm also reading (yes, I usually read more than one book at the time) a series by a Dutch author, Thea Beckman. She was one of our greatest children and young adult book writer. It's a series of 3 books and they take place almost a thousand years after World War III, in which the axis of the earth tilts. The equator (and thus the poles) have shifted. It takes place in what is now called Greenland. I've always loved that series.
And the third book I'm reading is also from a series, but this time by Isaac Asimov. "Caves of Steel" is the first of a kind of detective series, somewhere in our far future, in which there is a human plain-clothes officer and a robot who solve a crime (actually, a murder). There are four books in that series but there are more in following series (in which the Foundation Series is one).

I'm currently re-reading some Anne McCaffrey books that I have in my collection. I had forgotten how good her Brain / Brawn series were.
I agree with Rubi on "The Name of the Wind", although I seem have been waiting somewhat more impatiently for the second book. As I have been grumbling over delays in it's printing for about a year now. I understand that the author wants it to be spectacular, however I want it NOW!
If you can't have fun, what's the point?

'Future Shock'
'War and Peace'
'The Feminine Mystique'
'Dracula'
'Hobbit'
'LOTR'
'No Country for Old Men'
These are some of my favorites.
Now days, I mostly read theory books in my field. Need to get back into some fiction.
I'm reading "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. It's weird... The Dark Tower saga (Stephen King) is sitting under my bed too.
Oooh!!! I'm reading C.L. Wilson's The Tairen Soul Series.. well at least waiting on the new book to come out. It's a really awesome book series. I am also waiting on the new books to come out for the House of Night series by P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast and the Vampire Academy series by Rachel Mead. Since I have nothing new to read right now I am re-reading J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion!

I'm not from TRUE but does that keep me from posting?
Try to find a book named 'Tulagi Hotel' somewhere, it's a book about a US Navy fighter pilot who starts a hotel business at Tulagi, Solomon Islands and rebuilds his own life in the process... It has quite a lot of aerial fights and such things but also romance. Me likey.
What else do I read, I like sci-fi, fantasy, historical fiction, non-fiction... For example The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, The World Without Us by Alan Weisman, books by Joppe Karhunen, a retired fighter pilot from Finland, LotR series, etc...
