This thread reminds me...I want a kindle or similar...any suggestions?
Real books take up too much space...![]()
Currently I'm reading nothing but stuff for teh job, unfortunately, but I still occasionally spend a saturday afternoon with a good book on the couch. A few of my all-time favorites include the Lord of the Rings series by J.R.. ah, ya'll know the guy.. The Silent Planet Trilogy by C.S. Lewis is really good as well. Then Harry Muelisch's The Discovery of Heaven.
And a boatload of other fantasy series that started well and became bad at book 5.

Depends on where you live, what language you read most and what kinds of book you like reading.
The Kindle 3 is a good choice (husband got it pre-ordered) but only if you read mostly English and your choice of shops is smaller, unless you're prepared to remove DRM and convert.
Amazon uses mobipocket format, while the rest of the world is slowly moving towards epub. Now, if you don't mind removing DRM (I have absolutely no problems with that, DRM = evil), converting from epub to mobipocket is easy.
I use two readers, mostly. A LCD, WinCE based one, for night time reading, an e-ink 5", for day-time reading and a SiPix 6" for the livingroom (I think I'll put that one in the kitchen when we actually have a kitchen again, for recipes and such).
Perish the thought. Nothing can compare to curling up with a good book! Who cares in what form? You will make me happier with an electronic device (e-ink or LCD, don't care) than with a real book.

FOr whatever reason, my natural half-skimming half-speed reading doesn't work in electronic format, only regular books.
I don't read much. Mainly because I simply don't have the space.
But in an attempt to circumnavigate the problem (and pre-empt Ari's thread it seems), I have a Kindle on pre-order. I've never owned an e-reader before so I'm not quite sure what to expect.
I did however pick up a copy of the Ghosts of Ascalon when it was released. I'm only on Chapter twelve right now but it's interesting. So far though, I wouldn't recommend it to non-Guild Wars players.
Everyone is more than welcome to post here.![]()
I've been using my iPod Touch to read. I downloaded the Kindle App for it as well as a couple of other book readers. So far I have read several books on it. I have found it quite good for reading even though the screen is quite small. The iPad would be better, having a much larger screen, but that's quite expensive.
As to the "curling up with a good book" discussion, the Touch is small enough that it was easier to hold than a regular book. I didn't have to worry about loosing my place if I had to set the book down, and I could turn off the light and still read perfectly well because of the backlit screen.
I also have to admit that I have had an ebook reader for quite a few years. I bought an eBookman probably about 9 or 10 years ago. I used it a lot at the time, however the book selection was terrible. The selection of ebooks now is quite good. I think it's time to accept that ebooks are the future of publishing. Paper books will exist, but will become more of a luxury item rather than a staple.
If you can't have fun, what's the point?

Got two of those! And they were my first reader as well. Moved to PDA's afterwards and e-ink since last year.
Oh, if you like historic fiction, and the Arthur Legend in particular, I'd like to recommend Stephen R. Lawhead's Pendragon series. Taliesin is the first, followed by Merlin, Arthur and Pendragon. There is a fifth, Grail, but I haven't read that one yet.
