After some play this weekend, I think I've finalized my list. So much fun.
1- Human Warrior
2- Norn Ranger
3- Human Mesmer
4- Asura Guardian
EDIT:
5- Elementalist (Charr?)
5- Engineer? (forgot to try this bad boy...)

So yeah, not going to have warrior or thief in the final lineup.
Warrior is fun with its diverse set of weapons, but eventually it feels like it's all damage and not much else. Guardian was more rounded gameplay-wise.
Thief is fun too, but for this type of gameplay I prefer to be at a longer range, so mesmer is definitely a better choice.

Did you try the one handed sword, mace and/or hammer? Those three weapons are mostly about control rather than damage. I haven't gotten to try my warhorn I found yet since it's for a level 21 I think. But I've been enjoying buffing my allies. FGJ has a gargantuan range. The banners seems interesting too, combat just moves so quickly I'm not sure how useful they'd be without having seen their size.
Warhorn isn't that great. Two-handed Hammer, though.... I don't even usually like blunt weapons, but WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM
I've really enjoyed Thief and Mesmer so far; hoping to enjoy Guardian, too, but we'll see how much time remains to me.
1. Human Mesmer
2. Norn Thief (I played a human in the beta, but I realized that a norn would be a much funnier thief)
3. Sylvari Guardian
And we'll figure something else out from there. Enjoying ele much more than I thought I would as well.
RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!
Okay, folks, last beta weekend, now you've had some time to play around with Asura and Sylvari! How has your lineup changed?
1- Human Warrior (Think I finally found a face I like!)
2- Norn Ranger
3- Sylvari Ele (Pretty much the last thing I expected to be in the top 3)
4- Human Mesmer (Just for nostalgia, probably won't play him)
5- ???
I have to get some Thief and Engineer play in this weekend. I don't think either profession is for me, but I want to give them more play time. I don't want to delete any characters post launch in case they bring back presents![]()

Pro-necro skills RD! PRO.
They now are:
Human guardian for my main
human ele
human mesmer
asura engineer
asura thief
sylvari necro (i know stereotypical, whatever)
norn warrior
charr ranger
Ofc I'm intending to buy 3 char slots as soon as the game comes out, but if not the last 3 will be the waiting ones. [yeah so far i only like humans and asurans, but the completist in me wants to play ALL THE RACES]

When I said warrior was more damage, I know he has support and control options... I just meant that he has more damage options and that he is more focused on doing damage in gameplay than say the guardian. If I didn't already make a guardian, I'd make a warrior and be happy with it. I'm happy that they overlap quite a bit in role, but I prefer the one with more support options ;)
As for the lineup, mine doesn't change but I might main less with ele and engineer than I thought. I like that all professions are hybrids now, and I am starting to think that too much flexibility might be bad, i.e. engineer & ele, because it would be confusing to play. Sure, I would learn to play those, but I might go for a main that has a weapon swap and stick to two roles at a time. I am still undecided. I only played ele for 2 hours, but I might prefer it to engineer because I prefer element swap to kits and the turrets were not as fun as rit spirits.
I feel that my chosen professions each has some pros and cons, so it's hard to pick a favorite. This is in contrast to GW1 where ritualist was by far the best choice for me in all respects.

I'm still going to start the journey as a human warrior. And if it doesn't feel right I might go non-human elementalist (so many skills!).
