Revisiting my old post
I changed to female Sylvari Elementalist, now that the Sylvari week is over.
It is also most likely that she will be the only one to be played and the next two (Norn Guardian & Charr Ranger) will just be created as mules and because of possible birthday present issues.

Here's my dilemma:
1) I want exactly one character per race.
2) I want at most one character per profession, and the professions that interest me so far are G, R, En, El, N.
3) I want charr & norn to be casters, so N and El.
3B) This leaves G, R, En for the remaining 3 races.
4) I don't want an asura engineer, a sylvari ranger, or a human ranger or guardian. I realize that this leaves only one combo: human engineer, sylvari guardian, and asura ranger.
5) But I am most excited about sylvari engineer.
Not thrilled about humans, not super-thrilled about rangers either. I might just keep humans and rangers uncreated, and then see what I can mix & match with as new races and professions are added in later.
Until then, I might change my votes for:
Sylvari engineer
Asura guardian or ranger
Norn elementalist
Charr necromancer

Current characters in mind:
Human Engineer
Sylvari Thief
Charr Necromancer or Guardian (It depends on if Blindfolds are all-classes or just scholar. THIS IS IMPORTANT!)
Will swap between the first two as mains.
Edit:
Actually, now I want a Human Thief, but a Sylvari Thief too..!!
Maybe go Sylvari Ranger or profession #8..
ARGH!!!!!!!!

Still planning on a Human Warrior and Human Mesmer as my first two. Norn Ranger as that fits Tsul Kalu best. I'm now thinking maybe a Sylvari Assassin as I found a killer name, but that red head assassin in the video's just too HOT. May have to make one of those. Definitely a Sylvari Elly, I find that soo funny to have a plant flinging fireballs...
Not thinking of a Charr or Bunny.
With the new Sylvari update, mine have changed...
1. Sylvari/Norn Ranger (leaning towards Sylvari right now...)
2. Sylvari Necro
3. Norn Guardian
4. Sylvari Elementalist
5. Asura Engineer
6. Human Thief
7. Norn Warrior
Really excited to see starting pet choices for Sylvari. Thorn Mastiff is confirmed on the wiki, it seems...which I like. I like the idea of a Norn Ranger though, because of shapeshifting.

I try to match races with professions in a complementary way. Kinda hard to do with almost no info on racial skills.

My problem is that Charr are my favorite race in GW2 from what we know, and engineers are my favorite class, but I just can't say no to the plant with a flamethrower.
On the other hand, Ranger was my favorite GW1 class and I hope it's a fun class in GW2, too. Wish they could use rifles.
Well don't we know that Sylvari have a root skill, to hold an enemy in place temporarily? At least that's what I thought. If they do have that skill, it could be complimentary for any number of professions.
root + Necro minions/wells = good damage
root + Guardian skills = good crowd control
root + Elementalist water/ice type spells = good crowd control
root + Thief = snare to escape, or to initiate
root + Warrior = iniation or to hold in place
root + Engineer bombs/mines = Easier to hit?
Lots of possibilities. And that's just one skill, and one race. Sylvari have a healing skill too, I think.
Ranger was my first character, and it was my favorite class in GW1 too. The reason they didn't let them use rifles/pistols is because they're a nature-based class, not a technological class (like the engineer). I'm glad they can't use guns. I'd make an engineer if I wanted guns. I'm probably going to main a Ranger as long as I don't end up changing my mind to Necro or Guardian again...
