This might depend on what the sylvari look like, as a pen&paper player I do tend to play old race's such as Elf's, halfling's, Gnome's Dwarf's, Pixie's (for Lol factor and and no one really expect's that a tiny creature can end up backstabing you if you insulted her :P).
My list might look something like this.
-Human male Guardian (most likely with sword and shield to resemble my demi-god Paladin which was my first introduction to dnd)
-Sylvari Male/Female Assassin (if the Sylvari don't really resemble anything like an Elf then it will a Norn Assassin
-Char male Ele, most likely focus on water since well i like blue animations, and chilling hot heads down.
I keep thinking about the first toon I will role and my ideas are:
-Norn Ranger - just to see if they are more powerful than humans
-Human Guardian - I keep wondering if this will be similar to a Chanter in Aion
-Sylvari Ele - Still waiting to see exactly how this race will look.
I doubt I play a Charr - they just don't look aesthetically pleasing enough for my tastes. The Asuran I'm not so sure about. Guess i'll just have to wait & see.
my choices will depend on whats still to be released, im planning to at least have 1 of every race, to see the stories, but at this point i will probably make;
a sylvari thief,
a charr ele,
an asura guard,
and
a human of either necro, 3rd scholar(probably mes) or 3rd adventurer, depending on what they are,
a norn something else from the 3 options for human outlined above.

I will most likely make a Human warrior for my first character. I don't know, none of the races aside from Human really appeal to me - except for maybe charr. Norn are just big humans, asura are just weird, and sylvari dudes look waaaaay too feminine for my tastes (I only play male characters).
Primary: Charr Ranger/Engineer
Secondary: Norn/Human Guardian

The few classes that I like, I LOVE and will play. The others I have no interest in, as they do not fit my play style. I will make them in the order here, at least one of the used to find/play in a roleplay group
Autumn Sylvari Engineer- Who doesn't want to know everything about a world that you and your race just entered into? Best way to learn? Blow $%^# up
Blood Charr Ranger- The only thing that is needed to defeat the enemies are my Fahrar(sp?) and my loyal animal companions. We lean on each other, knowing everything about each other, to come out victorious
Winter Sylvari/Asura Necromancer- Not sure on which I will pick here, depending on how much I like the Sylvari redesign mostly. As an Asura, his/her job is to learn. The Great Alchemy intrigued him/her from a young age, and he devoted him/herself to it. They learned young that there is death, and that it is necessary for the Alchemy to continue its course.
Street Rat Human Thief- When you and your race struggles to survive in the world full of dangers, you must adapt. My Thief adapted to a life of cunning and subterfuge. He/She will be driven only by the want to show life that they will not take anything that would hold them down, but will come out on top of the world.
Asura Guardian- Little midget in a tin can suit, what else can I say? Epic.
I don't really enjoy the way the Norn race looks, or the drive behind them. They seem to egotistic for a group of heroes. The Warrior just seems like a lame Guardian, Why be an elementalist when you can be a necromancer or engineer, and I doubt a mesmer will be any fun unless the mechanic for it is amazing.

The first 3 I'll definitely make, the others are on the fence... it'll depend on how many char slots we get.
Human Guardian
Human Ele
Sylvari Thief
Sylvari Mesmer (or whatever that last profession is)
Asuran Engineer (maybe... I'm not sure if I want to make an engineer just yet)
Asuran Necro
Norn Warrior
Charr Ranger
And I tend to make all my characters female. At least in gw1, the men aren't very attractive. We'll see if that changes in gw2 ^.^

Ok, I said human engineer, but the profession is so cool that I might change races around to a better race than boring human.

Still duo mains for me: Human Necro, Sylvari Necro.
Any other professions (so far) if I do make them, will be for pure farming purposes.

The core three atm will most likely be a Human Ranger, Asuran Engineer and a Norn Necromancer. The rest I'll play through at some point once I've done the personal storylines for the first three.
