You can tell the quality of life of people by what they complain about
Just be thankful that cooler heads prevailed; there was advanced filming of Arwen being part of the head-busting at Helm's Deep in the movies.
Ughhh, yes lets be thankful that they didn't make up more major stuff that wasn't in the books. Arwen's role was very forced. I'm not saying the LOTR is a master piece that cannot be improved, but if you're going to make a movie out of it, stick to the story. I'm also thankful that in the end they decided not to have Aragorn battle Sauron in Return of the King directly. They were so close to completely messing it all up and getting every LOTR fan to curse Peter Jackson's name for centuries to come. Just film the damn thing and don't make sh*t up!
4th production video for the Hobbit where they talk about 3D.

Interesting, hopefully they put some class into 3-D.
"Purged in death's shadows, Necromancy wails anew, Life that is breathless."
A lovely documentairy as always. But those behind-the-scenes LOTR docs tend to also have a fair amount of nonsense in them. I mean, come on really? Artwork in 3d? What is the point of that? Surely they don't expect us to seriously believe that?
What they explain about the 3d camera is interesting. It seems we'll get a 3d experience more along the lines of Avatar, and less like some of those sloppy post effect 3d movies that hardly have any 3D at all.
What is also interesting is what they mention about the colors and the framerate. With the original LOTR trilogy I felt that many scenes had been artificially desaturated too much, to a point where it looked just down right weird. Also, the theatrical version of LOTR ran at a framerate that made it pretty tiresome to watch. The DVD version was definately a lot easier to watch. I remember especially some of the action scenes involving lots of fighting were an extreme strain on the eyes, because everything was moving so quickly while staying perfectly crisp and clear.

My impression of the trailer is that Jackson was trying to give off a little vibe from the cartoon version. I know the movie will get serious after the beginning which is does in the book; not digging some of the doofy looking dwarves.

I love it! Everything just looks and feels like the LotR trilogy, and immediately gives you the feeling that it is directly tied to it. I had this sense of nostalgia when watching it!
@CMEPTb: About the dwarves, well... it IS a children's book, after all, and some of the dwarves ARE doofy. But I also think they are a bit weird, if only because some of them deviate from what "normal" dwarves are supposed to look like. Which isn't a bad thing, though. If anything, it will show people that you can create dwarves other than the stereotypical long bearded, broad, small men in armour.
But that's what dwarves are lol I said this in some other thread, but the dwarves that aren't stout, bearded guys look kind of like gnomes to me.
