Really? I might be wrong, but the soldier classes of Warrior and Guardian seem to be dominated by the more "physical races" like Charr, Norn & Human.
Sylvari are a truly new innovative race, that's what's their charm so far. But perhaps this is something we could discuss over at the Races Forum.
PS: I've added a poll to collect the total numbers of opinions here on the thread combined with the broken down percentages from Alaris' compilation on the Professions Forum. That's why the rows each show 100%.

Sylvari aren't necessarily fascinated with plants. They are very curious.
A Sylvari using fire or lightning might do so to learn about the elements. Likewise, if I make a sylvari engineer, the motivation will be to understand the mechanical which is quite different from the natural.

Why do you consider Charr elementalists to not be the norm? In GW1 Charr are so obsessed with fire magic that even the martial professions use it.
They had a racial change away from magic for GW2, but they're still ingrained in our memories as magic users.
The Asurans I have a very hard time picturing using elemental magic. They prefer to use magic in different ways than something as clumsy and raining down meteors.

Well, at least one famous asura (in the book) was elementalist.
Charr are still elementalists, just not frequently. Charr necro though, that I find more unusual.

If I had to chose what is the oddest Elementalist race to me, I would say the Norn (this is reflected in the current numbers of the poll too. Norn rank last).
Humans => they kind of fit everything and we all know them from GW1 to be Elementalists
Charr => they had all kinds of casters among their ranks, but Charrs also have been about fire from the sky & walking burning effigies. Although they move away from treacherous magic (due to the shaman cast's collaboration with the "false gods"), it has still its use in battle. And that's what Charr live and die for.
Sylvari => I have already explained how I feel their connection to the elements in my initial post...
Asura => I actually see a stronger connection to elemental magic as a power source for floating cities, animated golems & battle suits and Asura gates than e.g. Necromany, which draws its power from the souls of the dead and living as well as the life force or their bodies. (Warrior is my Asura oddball)
Which leaves the Norn. A Norn caster seems to be such a snowflake to me, compared e.g. to Ranger or Guardian (Necro I can imagine out of the casters). Together with the Engineer, the Ele is the profession I can not see a spark ignite a fire. (Norn Mesmer would be even stranger, on a second thought)

She will be female, so a lot of things are forgiven.
But as you said somewhere else here on the forum IIRC (about the Sylvari Engineer you planned and who's armour & equipment appearance you don't find very good), you either get connected to something or you don't.
I believe everybody has his own personal "Asura Warrior"
With those many Human votes, I wonder why to chose those over the new races, which sound a lot more interesting ,just by the lore we have heard so far.

I have a human planned, but mainly to see their story. I am far more interested in the other races. If I make more than 1 of any race, it won't be human.
Also, some people do go out of their way to create race-profs that make sense. Norn and charr are physical combat, asura and sylvari are casters, etc...
