Anyway, I'm kinda in a pinch, considering I don't know if I can even run this game in my comp. This comp can run Oblivion in high settings (not max without any lag, high only). Not to mention the whole plethora of bugs that's bound to follow a Bethesda game.

What do you think, is it worth it for me to try it out?
You can check http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ and see if the game would run for you. As I discovered, it's not a demanding game so I can run it okay on my tired PC (a core 2 duo at 2.3, 4GB of RAM and an old 8600GTS).

I have been looking into this game, and while it does sound interesting, I find the price a bit steep for something I have absolutely no other hands-on experience on (didn't play Morrowind, nor Oblivion, never got around to those...)

Beside that, I've no idea if my PC would even run it (the graphics card is mentioned in the recommended specs, but my processor is the minimum spec...)

I might look into Oblivion instead...

So, I bought Skyrim and it is downloading while I'm at work. It's probably finished already. With my PC being a little crashy lately, due to running a borrowed quad instead of my trusty core2duo, I'm finding Steam Cloud saves to be quite useful. It's helped in Dead Island, for instance, and it should be good for Skyrim, too.

I'm playing the usual thief/bow/illusion guy that I normally play. I haven't even gone to the first main quest waypoint (after the initial 'OMG Dragon' quest), I'm level 18 so far and just completed what I think was the last quest of the thieves guild and...

    Spoiler

..anyway, I busted my buns to get to Riften to accomplish that, which wasn't at all what I had in mind.

Other than that I still like it though. I just hope the other Factions offer me more.

The game is not very CPU-bound. My dual-core isn't getting a lot of use.

Edit: Actually, it apparently is, but still manageable. And what I've read, it's only mostly using two threads anyway.

Honestly, having played all of the Elder Scrolls games, I can say that from a gameplay standpoint you might as well play Skyrim. Morrowind and Oblivion are great, but leveling is kind of quirky and you can sort of screw yourself if you don't do it properly. Skyrim definitely streamlines the leveling process.

The stories are largely unrelated so you don't really miss much by not playing the other ones. It's mostly one of those things where you read a book you find and go, 'Hey, I remember that name from the past games,' etc.

I agree with Aret. You'd only be subjecting yourself to a lesser game. Morrowind was excellent, and is still esteemed highly, but it's nearly ten years old at this point. Whether longtime fans love or hate the net changes, Skyrim appears to be the best option for this generation.

For those going the enchanting route, I read there is a deadric quest at Azura's Shrine that will eventually reward you with a reusable soul gem. Pretty sweet!
I'm going to have to do that sometime, as I really am getting into enchanting and have been worrying about where I'm going to find all these soul gems I'll need later on. I've made a number of +bow damage% items to augment my conjured bound bow and it's really making a difference.

So far I'm trying to specialize in...
    Conjuration, Enchanting, Archery, Sneak, Illusion
So many perks I want and so little points to spread around. argh

Also I got a super useful shout (details and location in spoiler)

My son told me there's a mod out already to interface with the config files, mainly because the PC version of Skyrim is defaulted at using 2 GB of ram max. Don't know if that's true or not, it seems kind of silly.

There was a similar file for New Vegas, and maybe even FO3, so I'll believe it. Tssk.
