I don't think the purpose of the High Resolution Texture Pack was to be extreme, but rather to even out the experience. User mods will always be able to develop more demanding content, if only because they don't have to worry about being too demanding for paying customers to run. So, that's why we have 4k & 8k texture sets.
I prefer the original textures with the extra resolution for now. Maybe I'll try one of the fancy ones out in a few years.
A sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.
I downloaded the HR Pack this morning and played for a while. I marvelled at the clarity, the sharpness and awesome graphics. Problem is, I remember thinking the same thing when I first started the game at the beginning, so I can't be sure if I'm imagining an improvement, or there really is one.

There is, you just have to look closely at things to see it (I don't use Steam though, but can say the HD textures do make a decent difference on computers that can run them).

I REALLY hope some of these ideas see the light of day.
Some of the ones that interested me the most:
- Spears
- Water Shader & Snow footprints
- Elemental arrows
- Dark dungeons

I was pretty surprised that footprints in the snow wasn't in the game - there's a whole level of adventure gaming in that one feature.
Guards lighting up rooms seems like a smart one too.

They're going to have a lot of people marching on their offices with torches and pitchforks of a lot of the stuff in that video doesn't get added in at some point.
Space core gets sent back:
Someone (below) doesn't appreciate the humor of a completely optional mod...
To be fair, though, I find their modded distaste for it to be just as funny.
Awesomely blocked in the U.S. on copyright grounds, that is.

Guessing from the name, I think it's the same song as in Zalis' "Skyrim Game Jam" video, or a remix of it.
