My ideal just happens to be split between professions..
(Magical) Dual Pistols, rifle and Gun X Sword was what I was aiming for.
And they're all spread out over Thief, Engineer and Mesmer.........
(That is, I am assuming the Mesmer has some nifty gun magic)
Anyways, it looks like I'll be maining a Human Thief. It's the closest to it.
List in terms of how much play I expect them to get:
1. Human Thief
2. Human Elementalist
-. Sylvari Warrior
4. Charr Necromancer
5. Asuran Engineer
6. Norn Guardian
-. Undecided Mesmer
8. Sylvari Ranger
Though I'm tempted to make the Sylvari Warrior a Mesmer now..
We'll see how I feel after the open beta.
Hope there's some Thief traits to make Elemental Bullets or something.
That'll be another +1. Else I'll have to enslave an Elementalist while playing...
Will also throw ALL OF MY KARMA at the golem battle suit vendor.

Weird... Mesmer is the most popular right now. I wonder if it's just because it is the newest release or if it's just because numbers are so small.

@RDarken: numbers are small, and it's a new release. But I think they've done a great job with the mesmer, making it a lot more visually interesting, so I can see mesmerism being a popular profession after release. Case in point, I was not planning to make a mesmer before the reveal, and now it ranks at 4, tied with elementalist and higher than ranger. It might drop in rank, but now enough to not make one.
I now really really want to know more about racial skills. In particular, I want to make sure that elementalist, mesmer, and thief gets summons. Yes, mesmer has clones and phantasms, but I'd like my mesmer to also get a tank-worthy summon if possible.

I tend to think the "flexible"/"hybrid' professions are the coolest (elementalist and engineer in Guild wars 2 fit this idea the best), though it is hard to make a solid decision, and I'll certainly try all the professions if I get the game.
That is pretty typical for the new professions. (when i saw the poll i wondered whether this should be done again after a demo, or after some time.)

There's a lot of misconceptions atm about what the new mesmer is about. I can see some people changing their mind (either way) once they figure out the mesmer.
Hint: I expect the new mesmer gameplay to be quite a bit like the old mesmer, except that now it's a lot more visual.

Or maybe you're all just under a hex to make you want to play Mesmer!!

@RDarken - I've seen people use that notation before. A more standard would be to rank them like 1 2 3 3 5 6 6 8 or 1 2 3.5 3.5 5 6.5 6.5 8, where repeating (and missing) numbers indicates ties. The latter notation is nice statistically.
