I have a kid, 13yo. I always try to limit the bad words, I was raised that way. Like I said above, well-used bad words can be funny or effective, but most of it is just trash and can be safely censored or replaced by fine words. Especially in comedies.

Yep. It changes our perspective a bit. I wasn't trying to condemn, but just pointing that factor out. (no kids, but plenty of nieces & nephews here)

I don't have kids, but I have little cousins. I don't like most random kids I see on the street, but I still get surly and protective when it comes to kids.
Seriously. Let me help you get past your mockery. For a religious person, actually saying that--or spelling it out--is tantamount to requesting that God damn someone or something, which is just not cool...He is not a demon to be summoned on command. This is the explanation I got as a child from my Catholic grandmother while she dutifully fed me soap for that exact crime. I'm still uncomfortable with that epithet, as well as the JC one, and make it a point to avoid saying them. Hope that helps.

Do you mean that "IBM" doesn't mean "International Business Machines"? Sorry but an abbreviation is just a short form of the full expression, it doesn't censor.
I was expressing my surprise over that Zalis actually would say it so literally when he obviously considers certain other words as "foul language".
Would you prefer to not know what I was referring to? I've never heard anyone say it like that, so basically, whatever. For the first one, I'm just not saying it out of respect. As for the latter one MV mentioned, it would be like using my fiancée's name as a curse or something, you know? I don't do that to those I love.
I'd rather hear f-words than than hearing either of those, which is why I want to laugh when certain people apologize for swearing around me. I never asked them to do anything.

Using your fiancee's name as a curse sounds like a hilarious idea.

No, while engaged, the name is a love word. Only after getting married does it change into a curse word.
I agree with Alaris wrote a few messages back. I was not only brought up to shy away from using vulgarity and cursing, but was taught that how one masters the [English] language for proper expression of ideas was a sign of good upbringing. To take a word that that can be a noun, verb, adverb, or adjective and use it all the time is, to me, a sign of laziness, low intelligence, or social ineptness. Vulgar words were used many times for shock effect but through the overuse of them, they don't shock everyone like they once did. I have wondered how many might be stumped by copulate or fornicate and not know the difference, and yet not care since f--- can be used for both as their poor-relation synonym?
