GW2 Beta Hardware Performance Survey (Beta Event March 23, 2012)

During last weekend's beta event, the GWOnline crew made some notes about the beta client's performance on their various machines. Here's a survey of the hardwares and rough performance numbers.

Note: This is beta. It is likely the client has not been optimized fully. This is presented for informational purpose only.

Other thoughts/comments:

• Did not work with Wine out of the box.
• Speed of hard drive did not noticeably affect gameplay, but is noticeable for map display.

About optimization: shortly after the beta started, we got kicked again and had an update. When I started the client again, it had sped up.

Yes, there is actually one interesting thing... There's one machine almost the same as mine with only a better graphics card. And the FPS is a lot better on that one!


(I'm not sure my resolution is right, it might also be a 1920x1080 monitor... but I don't know what the resolution would be windowed...)

Besides screensize, what graphical options were you running? I guess there is a difference between low and "see all the particle effect sparkling glitter quadruple AA" :)

I could mention that the Wine that didnt work was mine. However I think it *should* work, and that it is something in my system that breaks it. I will make a proper wine writeup down the line, but was going to hold off until I got something actually useful to report.

Min = slider all the way to the left, which meant maximum performance.
Max = slider all the way to the right, which meant maximum eye-candy

Yeah, results so far aren't encouraging, but it's beta.

Well, I plan to play the next betas as well and probably only will update my PC by release time... So we'll hopefully see some changes then!

Yes, we pretty much tested the two extremes because we only had limited time, and I think people were more interested in actual gameplay and not interested in finely documenting all graphical settings for a beta client. In fact, someone in the Anet created guild chat mentioned that for beta, the client isn't optimized for all video cards, so for now we should run it on minimum if there are performance issues.

Again, this is beta, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. This is just a sampling for people who were curious. Unfortunately it looked like the GWO team was heavily skewed to NVidia.
