I thought about making a thread like this a while back, but kept forgetting. We've had some other political threads here and there, so there's definitely interest in the topic, and we've had some good conversations on a variety of topics. My goal with this one is to dump random articles and discussions that aren't really thrilling enough for their own thread ("My country is having an election," "My country hasn't had a government in a year," etc. - the juicy ones we get a lot out of). Hopefully it doesn't end up totally one-sided or US-centric.
Anyway, here's an interesting article I read today:

If you read around the conservative blasting, there's an interesting tidbit:
Apparently, over 800 bills in the US can be tied back to lobbying by this one organization, ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council), which is supported by a lot of big name corporations.

So this thread will be GWO's world news politico? Nice.
I guess not really at its worst...but:
I have been semi-following the next Presidential election in France between Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande. I was surprised to discover that France has remained more "republican" (whether this term for France is more moderate than not in the US...it is something I am interested in finding out more about) in their politics over the years. The main issue that interests me in this election though is concerning the euro, a topic also covered in the article.
Heh. ...heh.Apparently, over 800 bills in the US can be tied back to lobbying by this one organization, ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council), which is supported by a lot of big name corporations.

Ohh the stuff here doesn't have to be all bad. I was just being comical with the title because a lot of times politics comes down to "Ugh."
I'd be really interested to learn more about how France Republican is different from the US. Interestingly, the article says the France election is coming in on its first round of voting. Anyone know how the elections work there? Kind of funny that one of the candidates is running as a Socialist, whereas here in the US, that's thrown around as a derision.

I'm pretty sure that anything French is different than its Amurrican equivalent.
Wow, Alaris. Is she taken seriously up there?
Nah, it's not really a plural word, so it is "politics is." Politics, a noun, refers to government and policies and stuff. Politic (apparently this is actually a word) is an adjective.
I hate politics, and I have a general dislike for religion. But when the two mix..I just want to punch babies (not really)
