I got the question in Guild Chat on Saturday when I said that I was playing Guild Wars 2 on a Linux computer, Why?. I explained that I would like to play my new favorite game on my favorite operating system and I anyway do not have a Window computer available. Not one with gaming [...]

Nice to know it could work.
I only have one windows setup left and that one is for the sole purpose of running guildwars
I did try to run GW1 using wine in the past, but it never felt working good enough (but then the gpu powers of my linux systems are somewhat below par)
You, madam, are a jewel.
I didn't dare to try it on BWE, I'm so happy I'm gonna delete win7 partition right now!
Thanks Lensor!

Why?
Just kidding, gratz!
One question, did you fail to run it during the press beta, or just run out of time? I'd be curious to know.

I was, to be blunt, very very stupid. When the loader crashed I thought that was it, so spent all weekend trouble shooting the crash. I learned a lot about compiling wine and logging, but could never fix it. As I now know, just relaunching the launcher over and over is a workaround. Duh.

Yeah, launcher crashed a few times here too, so...
Oh well, glad to know it worked!

This made curious... I have a Mac... would it be possible to run GW2 on MacOS with wine? I have read someone has ran GW1 with Wine on Mac ....so far I have used Paralles Desktop and win7 to play Guild Wars but maybe...
wine is not an emulater, but works my implementing some of the windows api parts as an x-windows translation
so to theoreticly run gw in wine on a mac
- the mac must run on an intelx86 compatible cpu
- the graphic capablilites must be suficcient to run gw
- wine must be availeble for the mac (i beleve it is)
- the mac's implementation of wine must me complete enough (aka the used d3d parts used by gw must be implemented)
i'm assuming that wine is also free of charge for the mac, i'd say give it a try
Wine should be faster than a Virtual Machine, since a Virtual Machine must run all the crap Windows needs as well. At least that's what I think.
