how is that so when i can control just as well when my thumb is off the mouse and its just my hand? maybe ive just grown accustomed to using my thumb for attacks rather then control, because my upper palm and pointer/middle/ring fingers are really doing all the control when im playing. guess im just different :( but i wouldnt have it any other way

But you can't control it "just as well". You might think you can, or you just don't perform well enough anyway for it to matter, but without the thumb, you'll have a slower and more coarse control of the mouse movement. Your fingers are normally more accurate than your thumb, but not while applying pressure enough to facilitate sideways movement, especially for an extended period of time. Try it, you'll find yourself using your wrist, even for small movements.

For MMORPGs though, access to functions is more important than actual precision. If this was an action fps, or even a rts, then I would agree.
