    Ranger Preview [BWE1 info]

    Since I saw the Warrior one was updated, I figured the Ranger one could use an update as well. Will be taking info from the thread here and various other sources. This is a work in progress and I'll be updating it with more info as I find it. Information posted here can be reused since all information is shared and such.

    = Overview =

    The ranger is a nature-themed adventurer profession which combines their use of pets with mobile combat and a focus on ranged attacks. The ranger can use a wide variety of weapons, but they tend to favour bows. Their repertoire of utility skills focuses on pet buffs, traps and spirits of nature.

    The animal companion is available exclusively for the ranger profession. They are pets that fight alongside the ranger and are maintained through a special user interface that can alter behavioral modes and issue direct commands (excluding their skill usage). Four animal companions can accompany the ranger in total, but only one animal companion will fight at a time. Rangers can switch animal companions to adapt to in-game situations.

    The animal companion's statistics (health, armor, damage, etc) is based on the ranger who owns it. Animal companions all possess 4 skills. Three of the skills are based on the family of creature (feline, bear, etc), while the fourth skill is uniquely determined by the species within that family (brown bear, black bear, etc).

    Rangers, as well as certain animal companions, can utilize stealth, although the number of skills that grant this is limited.



    = ATTRIBUTES =

    Primary Attributes

    There are four primary attributes. Two improve offensive aspects of the character, two improve defensive aspects. All attributes deal with both magical and physical characteristics.

    • Power — every point increases attack by one point.
    • Precision — increases critical hit chance.
    • Toughness — every point increases armor by one point.
    • Vitality — every point increases maximum health by ten points.



    Secondary Attributes

    There are five general attributes which are used by all of the professions. These attributes do not automatically receive points at each level and the player must choose to improve these. There are three offensive and two defensive attributes.

    • Compassion — Improves all outgoing heals that your character does, including self heals.
    • Concentration — Improves the duration of all boons applied by the character.
    • Expertise — Improves the duration of all conditions inflicted by the character.
    • Malice — Improves the damage done by conditions like burning, poison, confusion, and bleeding.
    • Prowess — Improves the damage multiplier on critical strikes.



    Profession Specific Attribute

    The Ranger gets access to the Attribute Empathy, which improves Pet Attributes. The exact mechanic is not known right now.



    = TRAITS =

    The Ranger has access to the following 5 Trait Lines. Listed as well are the Minor Traits, which are automatically given at 5 (Adept), 15 (Master) and 25 (Grandmaster) points spent in the trait line.

    • Marksmanship: Marksmanship is a trait line for the ranger that focuses on long range damage and improves abilities of devourers, felines and sharks. Passives: +10 Power, +1 Expertise per point
      • Adept: Opening Strike - First hit when entering combat causes vulnerability.
      • Master: Alpha Training - Your pets also do Opening Strike.
      • Grandmaster: Precise Strike - Opening strike always crits.

    • Skirmishing: Skirmishing is a trait line for the ranger that focuses on mobility, traps, and favors use of birds and jellyfish. Passives: +10 Precision, +1 Prowess
      • Adept: Tail Wind - Gain swiftness when swapping weapons in combat.
      • Master: Furious Grip - Gain fury when swapping weapons in combat.
      • Grandmaster: Hunter's Tactics - Deal 10% more damage while flanking.
    • Wilderniss Survival: Wilderness Survival is a trait line for the ranger that focuses on defensive combat maneuvers. Passives: +10 Toughness, +10 Malice
      • Adept: Natural Vigor - You have additional 50% endurance regeneration.
      • Master: Companion´s Defense - You and your pet gain 2 seconds of protection when you dodge roll.
      • Grandmaster: Peak Strength - Deal 5% extra damage when health is above 90%.
    • Nature Magic: Nature Magic is a trait line for the ranger that grants benefits from and for maintaining high health. Passives: +10 Vitality, +1 Concentration
      • Adept: Rejuvenation - You gain regeneration when your health reaches 75%.
      • Master: Fortifying Bond - Any boon you get is shared with your pet.
      • Grandmaster: Bountiful Hunter - You and your pet deal 5% more damage while you have a boon.
    • Beastmastery: Beastmastery is a trait line for the ranger that focuses on animal companion improvements and favors use of dogs, drakes and spiders. Passives: +10 Healing, +1 Empathy
      • Adept: Zephyr's Speed - You and your pet gain 2 seconds of Quickening Zephyr when you swap pets.
      • Master: Loud Whistle - Cooldown between pet swaps is shortened by 40%.
      • Grandmaster: Nature’s Wrath - 10% of healing is given as a bonus to power.


    The following are the Major Traits available to the Ranger. For every 10 points in a trait line, the Ranger can choose one Major Trait, for up to three major Traits per line.

    • Marksmanship
      • Beastmaster's Bond - Gain fury and might when your pet's health reaches 25%.
      • Beastmaster's Might - Activating a signet grants might.
      • Eagle Eye - Increased longbow range.
      • Keen Edge - Automatically use a Sharpening Stone when health reaches 75%.
      • Long-range Power - Longbow and Harpoon Gun attacks do 5% more damage.
      • Malice Training - Increased duration for conditions applied by your pets.
      • Piercing Arrows - All arrow attacks pierce targets.
      • Predator's Instincts - Apply cripple to enemies you hit when they are below 25% health.
      • Remorseless Regain Opening Strikes when you kill an enemy.
      • Signet Mastery - Signets have a 20% shorter recharge.
      • Signet of the Beastmaster - Active effects of signets effect you as well as your pet.
      • Steady Focus - 10% damage bonus when endurance is full.
    • Skirmishing
      • Agility Training - Your pet moves 30% faster.
      • Carnivorous Appetite - Your pets gain life on critical hits.
      • Companion's Might - Critical hits grant might to pet.
      • Honed Axes - Axes deal 33% more critical damage.
      • Moment of Clarity - Gain Quickening Zephyr at 25% health.
      • Pet's Prowess - Your pet´s critical hits do 30% more damage.
      • Quick Draw - Shortbow skills recharge 15% faster.
      • Sharpened Edges - Chance to cause bleed on crit.
      • Trap Potency - Conditions caused by traps last twice as long.
      • Trapper's Defense - Create a spike trap while reviving an ally.
      • Trapper's Expertise - Traps are ground targeted.
      • Trapper's Knowledge - All traps are larger.
    • Wilderniss Survival
      • Dagger Mastery - Dagger skills recharge 20% faster.
      • Deep Breathing - Warhorn skills recharge 15% faster.
      • Empathic Bond - Your pet periodically takes conditions from you.
      • Expertise Training - Your pets deal extra condition damage.
      • Healer's Celerity - Grant swiftness to you and your allies when you revive someone.
      • Hide in Plain Sight - Apply camouflage at 25% health.
      • Master Trapper - Traps recharge 20% faster.
      • Soften the Fall - Create muddy terrain when you take falling damage.
      • Sword Mastery - Sword skills recharge 15% faster.
      • Torch Specialist - Torch skills have longer range.
      • Vigorous Renewal - Gain Vigor when using a heal skill.
      • Wilderness Knowledge - Wilderness Survival skills recharge 20% faster.
    • Nature Magic
      • Circle of life - Create a healing spring on death.
      • Concentration Training - Boons applied to your pets last longer.
      • Enlargement - Your pet gets enlarged when you reach 25% health.
      • Evasive Purity - Remove a condition from you and nearby allies on dodge roll.
      • Nature's Vengeance - Spirits activate their toggle skill on death.
      • Nature’s Bounty - Regeneration you apply lasts 33% longer.
      • Shared Restoration - Heal nearby allies on revive.
      • Spirits Unbound - Spirits can move and follow you.
      • Spiritual Knowledge - Spirit buffs have a 15% better chance of providing their benefits.
      • Strength of Spirit - 10% of your vitality is converted to power.
      • Two-handed Training - 5% increased damage with greatsword and spear skills.
      • Vigorous Spirits - Spirits have twice as much health.
    • Nature Magic
      • Canine Training - Dogs apply stability to nearby allies when they howl.
      • Commanding Voice - Pet activation skills (F2) have faster recharge.
      • Compassion Training - Your pets heal for more.
      • Devourer Training - Your devourer´s basic attack pierces.
      • Drake Training - Drake pets have passive regeneration and condition removal.
      • Instinctual Bond - When you are downed your pet gains frenzy.
      • Porcine Training - Pigs deal extra bleeding.
      • Screech Training - Bird screeches cause fear.
      • Shout Mastery - Shouts recharge 20% faster.
      • Speed Training - Feline and shark pets have 50% reduced cooldown on their skills.
      • Stability Training - Bears and armorfish always have stability.
      • Venomous Training - Spiders and jellyfish cause vulnerability when they attack.

    = Weapons and Armor =

    The Ranger is classified as an Adventurer and as such has access to all Medium type armors.

    The Ranger has access to the following weapon types:

    Weapon list
    • Two-handed
      • Greatsword — A brute force, heavy-damage weapon with emphasis on countering and evasion.
      • Longbow — Powerful sniping weapon, used for rapid fire strikes or barrages at long distance.
      • Shortbow — Quick skirmishing weapon relying on movement, positioning and conditions for quick kills.

    • Main-hand
      • Sword — Mobile melee strikes which can be used to distance the ranger from the target or surprise them from behind.
      • Axe — Medium ranged throwing weapon which can ricochet off a target or can toss a cluster of axes.


      Off-hand
      • Axe — Enter a stance to reflect incoming strikes or throw the axe for a boomerang effect.
      • Dagger — Used as a crippling ranged attack, or a quick poisonous stab for melee.
      • Torch — Throw the torch at enemies for burning damage, or can light areas on fire.
      • Warhorn — Call in temporary animals to attack or used to buff allies.

    • Aquatic
      • Harpoon gun — Use ranged attacks to strike multiple foes and makes use of the underwater environment.
      • Spear — Keep foes at bay with close range spear stabs and swipes.




    = Special Skill Types =

    • Chains — Up to three skills that share a single skill slot, which are executed in sequence on a single target.
    • Survival — Utility skills that enhance survival or offensive abilities.
    • Spirit skills — Summon a nature spirit that influences the area around it.
    • Traps — Utility skills that can be placed at a ranger's current location. When an enemy enters a trap, it is triggered.

    Weapon skills

    Longbow skills
    • Long Range Shot: Shoot an enemy at long range. The further the arrow flies the more damage it does. 0 second recharge. Range: 1200
    • Rapid Fire: Rapidly fire at your foe. 10 second recharge. Range: 1200
    • Hunter's Shot: Fire an arrow to make your foe vulnerable. Your pet gains swiftness. 15 second recharge. Range: 1200
    • Point Blank Shot: Knock back your foe with a point-blank shot. The closer they are, the further it knocks back. 15 second recharge. Range: 600
    • Barrage: Barrage target area with a hail of crippling arrows. 30 second recharge. Range: 1200


    Shortbow skills

    • Crossfire: Fire an arrow that bleeds your target if it hits your foe from behind or the side. This skill recharges instantly. Range: 900
    • Posion Spray: Fire a spread of poison arrows, 9 second recharge. Range: 900
    • Quickshot: Fire a quick shot in an evasive retreat. Gain swiftness if it hits. Can be used while retreating. 9 second recharge. Range: 900
    • Crippling Shot: Shatter your foe's dreams of becoming an adventurer with a single arrow to the knee. Your pet's next three attacks inflict bleeding. 12 second recharge. Range: 900
    • Concussion Shot: Daze your foe with an arrow. Stuns them if you hit from behind. 15 second recharge. Range: 900


    Greatsword Skills

    • Slash: Slash your foe.
      Slice: Slice your foe.
      Power Stab: Stab your foe and evade attacks.
    • Swoop: Run and leap at your foe, hitting them and nearby foes.10 second recharge.
    • Counterattack: Block and counter an attack with a kick that pushes foes back. 20 seconds recharge.
      Crippling Throw: Throw your greatsword, crippling your foe.
    • Maul: Bleed your foe four times with a mauling strike. 20 seconds recharge.
    • Hilt Bash: Daze your foe with a hilt bash. Stun them if you hit from behind. Your pet's next attack does double damage. 30 seconds recharge.



    Sword skills

    • Slash: Slash your foe
      Kick: Kick your foe for a short cripple
      Pounce: Leap at your foe, striking them. Your pet gains might.
    • Hornet Sting: Stab your foe, then quickly retreat backwards.
      Monarch's Leap: Leap back into the fight, crippling your foe.
    • Serpent Strike: Twist around your foe to poison them.



    Axe skills
    Main Hand
    • Ricochet: Bounce your axe off multiple foes. . This skill recharges instantly. Range: 900
    • Splitblade: Throw a spread pattern of whirling axes that bleed foes. 6 second recharge. Range: 900
    • Winter's Bite: hrow an axe to freeze your foe. Your pet's next attack inflicts weakness. 10 second recharge. Range: 900



    Offhand
    • Path of Scars: Boomerang an axe in a line, striking foes each way. 15 second recharge. Range: 900
    • Whirling Defence: Blocks projectiles while damaging nearby foes. 25 second recharge.



    Dagger skills
    All Dagger skills are offhand skills.
    • Stalker's Strike: Stab your foe, poisoning them and evading attacks. 10 second recharge
    • Crippling Talon: Throw a dagger to bleed and cripple your foe. 18 second recharge



    Torch skills
    All Torch skills are offhand skills.
    • Throw Torch: Throw your torch and burn your foe.
    • Bonfire: Set a fire around you, burning foes. 25 second recharge




    Warhorn skills
    All Warhorn skills are offhand skills.
    • Hunter's Call: Call hawks to swarm your foe. More attacks when traited. 20 seconds recharge.
    • Call of the Wild: Grant fury, might, and swiftness to yourself and nearby allies. .


    Harpoon Gun (Aquatic)

    • Splinter Shot: Shoot a spear that splinters around your target, striking and bleeding multiple foes.
    • Coral Shot: Shoot a spear that collects sharp coral as it travels, causing more bleeding the further it goes and cripples. 10 seconds recharge
    • Feeding Frenzy: Drive piranhas into a feeding frenzy around your foe. Apply fury to your pet. 10 seconds recharge
    • Mercy Shot: Fire a shot that strikes for more damage the less health your target has. 12 seconds recharge
    • Ink Blast: Blind nearby foes. 18 seconds recharge


    Spear (Aquatic)
    The spear is a melee range weapon that can be used underwater.

    • Stab: Stab your foe.
      Jab: Jab your foe.
      Evasive Strike: Evade while delivering a powerful attack.
    • Swirling Strike: Attack while reflecting projectiles. 8 seconds recharge.
    • Dart: Dart at your foe. Grant swiftness to your pet. 10 seconds recharge.
    • Counter Strike: Prepare to throw your spear while blocking. If you block, push back your attacker with a kick. 15 seconds recharge.
    • Man O'War: Immobilize your foe and strike them multiple times. 18 seconds recharge.



    Other skills

    Healing
    Heal as One: Heal

    yourself and your pet, 12 second recharge.
    Healing

    Spring: Grant health regeneration to you and nearby allies, 20 second recharge.

    = Pets =

    Pets are animal companions exclusive to the Ranger class. A Ranger can have up to 4 Pets with him, though only 1 can be "out" at any time. The Ranger can have 2 Terrestrial Pets and 2 Aquatic Pets, with Amphibious pets allowed in either slot, allowing the Ranger to switch between 2 pets in combat. The game will automatically switch pets between terrestrial and Aquatic pets if the player goes for a swim.

    Each Pet has 3 skills dependant on its Pet family it will use automatically and one skill specific to the species, which can be activated by the player with the F2 key. F1, F3 and F4 can be used to issue various pet commands to give the player complete control over his pet.

    • Bird
      • Slash: Slash your foe.
      • Swoop: Swoop at your foe, making them vulnerable.

      • Jab: Jab your foe with tusks.
      • Maul: Maul your foe, causing them to bleed.
      • Brutal Charge: Charge at your foes and knock them down.

      • Healing Cloud: Release a cloud of mist that grants Regeneration to you and your allies.
      • Dark Water: Blind foes near your target with a dark cloud.
    • Shark
      • Bite: Bite your foe, causing them to Bleed.
      • Charging Bite: Charge your foe, striking multiple times and causing them to Bleed.
      • Fear: Make your foe flee in Fear.


    Amphibious Pets
    • Bear
      • Slash: Slash your foe with your claws.
      • Bite: Bite your foe and gain regeneration.
      • Defy Pain: You take no damage for the next few seconds.
    • Devourer
      • Shoot Poison: Fire two shots from your tail that have a 10% chance to poison.
      • Knockback Strike: Push a nearby foe back with your tail.
      • Devourer Retreat: Retreat by tunnelling through the ground.
    • Drake
      • Bite: Bite a foe with your jaws.
      • Chomp: Bite a foe and gain health.
      • Tail Swipe: Attack all surrounding foes with a tail swipe.
    • Feline
      • Slash: Slash at your foe, leaving them vulnerable.
      • Bite: Bite your foe for heavy damage.
      • Maul: Slash a foe multiple times and make them bleed.
