Guild Wars 2 Techno Soundtrack Kickstarter
One of the more interesting features of Guild Wars 2 is that players can easily modify the in-game music with custom playlists. So I got to thinking, wouldn't it be great if there was a ton of electronic music made specifically to fit those custom playlists?
Now, don't get me wrong, the symphonic soundtrack by Jeremy Soule is fantastic. But sometimes when you're gaming, you're just in the mood for something...different. Electronic music can represent a fresh change during the hundreds of hours you are sure to put into this game.
Guild Wars 2 allows you to customize the following playlists: Ambient, Battle, Underwater, City, Crafting, BossBattle, NightTime, and MainMenu. This allows for a huge array of styles ranging from trance, house, ambient, drum and bass, and so forth. I anticipate that this soundtrack will cover many different styles but be consistent with the themes that the playlists represent.
I am incredibly excited about the release of Guild Wars 2 and wanted to once again contribute to the fantastic community that Guild Wars has built. When I heard about the easily customizable in-game music, I saw a unique opportunity to provide some different styled music to the players.
I truly want this project to happen. I want to give something back to a community that has meant a lot to me over the years (I was involved with Machinima in Guild Wars 1 under the Max Damage Studios banner. Videos still available here. This project is a way to show the world that the Guild Wars community can come together to do something great. Guild Wars has always been about more than just the game: it's been about us: the players. We have shared our experiences and huddled around computers waiting with bated breath for the next Guild Wars 2 announcement. Now is our chance to come together again by helping build content for the game that will be ready when it's released. Get involved, and then tell a friend, post it to your guild forum, shout it at your local mall (though this may create an awkward moment of public confusion). You get the idea. This can't happen without your support! Pledge and then spread the word! Let's make Guild Wars 2 even more awesome.

Basically he wants to get a 1500$ synth out of it
@Art Yi Mor: believe it or not, some people like techno which means they like techno in their game. They like it even more so when the techno is made specifically for said game. I personally don't like techno, but I would love a soundtrack by a pink floyd style rockband. Hey maybe I should start a kickstarter...

My first thought when I saw the title was "Oh lord". Then I started reading the post (ignored the links at first), and thought, "Hmm, I wouldn't necessarily want techno or anything like that in my Guild Wars 2, but, it COULD be interesting". Of course, I ignored the last paragraph because it was too long (yeah, I'm lazy, what can I say)
At this point, I still hadn't clicked the links, and I started to read Art's post. When I read the part about fleecing the community, I was confused and bewildered. So I finished reading his post, then clicked the first link and saw the pledge crap. THEN I noticed the last paragraph had a link on "Pledge".

Art, Clearly you didn't read the Kickstarter.
We are not attempting to make any profit off this project. The costs are modest and are to cover the cost of producing actual CDs with original music and original album artwork. As I stated in the Kickstarter, I want this project to be of high quality, which means raising some money up front to use in the production process.
I've been part of the Guild Wars community from the very first beta of the first game. I created many machinima videos that I shared freely with the community. As a husband and a father-to-be, I don't have a lot of time to frequent the forums, but I certainly have posted many things here under a different name.
I appreciate that you are emotionally invested in the community and want to protect its integrity. I think we are all working towards the same goal. These forums are an open place for the sharing of ideas and projects that others might enjoy and I believe this is a project that others may be interested in. That is why it is posted here.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/...k-kickstarter/and the various other that have been wiped from MMORPG and its sisters are spam - don't fool yourself (Or your child to be) into thinking otherwise.
I do hope you can see my point.
Sell to the fan base if you wish, just do it properly.

Hmm, Jeremy Soule vs unknown techno-musician... I'll just stick to Jeremy Soule. It's not like it was cheap to preorder the CE box.

I applaud your willingness to make music for Guild Wars 2, but it would be better if you found a way to do it without asking our community for money. Make YT movies that you monetise and you should be able to raise the money needed for equipment all by your own (and skip the CD printing, no one uses those things any more..). Yes it might take longer, but would be recieved better by the community I think. Because while Art is being rough about it (really Art, we should send you to diplomacy school!), he is also right. Unless the equipment is sold back after finishing the album, it really does sound like you just want the GW2 community to buy you a new synth.
I am not a mod in this forum though, so will leave it at that for now.

you know what, there are DJ's who make good music, they just don't ask money trough a forum and expect to be payed.
armin van buren, DJ tiesto, paul van dyke, etc....
good music, but enough respect to keep it to there self, learn from that.

I've removed the links in the OP because we don't typically allow advertisements here. That said the subject itself is reasonable enough for this thread to remain open. Just a word of warning though:
Keep the tone civil, no matter what your opinions on this subject is. If this thread becomes nothing but troll bait and flames then I'll close it.
