In general, if it's a "new fad diet," you shouldn't pay it any mind.
So anyway, 1/2 Polish here, some smattering of down Southern stuff/Seminole other half. Lots of Polish food in my upbringing, and we still make the kielbasa and kiszka (basically blood sausage) on a regular basis. My parents were worldy people, though, who brought back many recipes from their travels, so I'm not stuck in any basic single regional food type. This is good for my children, because they've eaten and learned to appreciate foods the average American would never touch.

I won't eat some foods based solely on looks or knowing what it contains. My wife is the opposite. She can see a photo of food and think how delicious it looks. I have honestly never looked at food and thought about it looking delicious. Instead, I either see something that looks like it will taste bad of no thought about it. That's when I'll eat. I've only met one other person who is like me about food. I realize I probably have missed out on many delicacies, but I only look at it as how many horrible foods I was saved from. It's weird, I know, but it is how I am.
Veritas Invictus ~ The TRUE Guild
I remember reading somewhere that the tendency to gorge on sweets and high calorie food is instinctive; up until fairly recently, people needed those carbs and calories, and rich sugary food was difficult to come by.
In the last couple of centuries, advances in agriculture and food preservation has made such food plentiful. Combine this with a more sedentary modern lifestyle, and that instinctive sweet tooth is killing us.
I've probably mangled the quote, but you get the idea.

Keto and paleo are pretty much the opposite of a fad diet. Most people have been conditioned to think awful things about fat and other foods so much that they immediately dismiss any diets that claim otherwise. The brainwashing goes deep in the US on that note.

I was talking more about Atkin's there. As a general rule, if most white housewives are on the diet, it's not real.

Haha truedat. Science, research and self experimentation! That's the only real way to go about it.

food??? my FAVORITE subject!!
1/2 swedish (mom) 1/2 eastern european (dad)...hubby is german and italian and sicilian (they really dont like to be called italian)...so growing up...had some really good cookies and cakes and my mom's dad was a baker--so REALLY good breads and buns (can still smell them even though he died 40+ years ago---)...
I do like some swedish foods (pickled cucumbers are the best made the swedish way)...but for the most part, my favorite is japanese! I lived in japan for 2 years and enjoyed trying all the different foods --not just ramen and sushi--that would be like only thinking of appetizers when you go out for dinner!
and yes I like some to excess--and really do need to cut down on portions, however, with my health issues loosing weight has been almost impossible (if I eat less my body STORES everything I eat thinking that there are lean times ahead and it needs to plan ahead)....so diets dont work for me...
I have been to quite a few places around the world and have enjoyed foods of many cultures..I like indian curries, almost any kind of pasta (pieroges, raviolis, pelmeni, gyoza...), when I visited ireland I really enjoyed blood sausage (to my husband horror), though I can say I never got the hang of lutfisk and probably never will!
chocolate is still my favorite food, and always will be--and they have found that dark chocolate even has health benefits!
and to make matters worse--I love to cook and am a pretty dang good cook too (especially if my and my husband waist sizes mean anything).
So uh, I had some Korean BBQ last night. It was delicious.
