I know there's no need for tank / healer / dps.. but don't you think that all mesmers might be somewhat limiting your activities?

It is even more like GW1 were you could get a group of mesmers to fill all the roles, switching on the fly.
Basically there are no set-in-stone roles, and mesmers can fill them all out. As can necros, thiefs or guardians.

Same way every other class does not tank in the traditional way. Play GW2 and learn how talking about tanking is a sign of ignorance. Even a fully specced guardian can't take more than half a minute of heat.

As for mesmers specifically, I read that they can tank-by-proxy pretty well by chain-summining clones and diverting all attention to said clones. This way no player ever gets any damage which is, imho, way better than tanking which implies massive amounts of healing required (which is also impossible in GW2).

If foes only hit clones, you don't need a tank. 5 mesmers should be able to tank pretty well, producing clones faster than foes can dispatch them.

It's ignorant to say "All classes can tank the same." No they can't. If you think a Mesmer can take a hit as well as a Warrior, you probably haven't tried both classes. Warriors have more armor AND more HP than Mesmers.
Alaris' point about clones is valid, assuming you can keep agro on the clones and can coordinate well enough that all your Mesmers aren't shattering / losing their clones at the same time.

Traditional tanking has been replaced with "keeping the enemy wasting their attacks", whether they waste attacks on your shield or bubbles, on your summons and clones, or because of blindness, it's still keeping damage away from team members. You don't tank by taking damage, you tank by making sure attacks get wasted.

In this sense, mesmers can tank, or rather, mesmers can summon clones which do the tanking for them.
