The only thing 'wrong' about it is when everybody in the top 5 talks about how they've gotten more golds this year than before. The rarity of a gold is just glossed over.
I'm reading UK headlines just now about how this is the most gold they've gotten in over 100 years. Whilst still a great accomplishment we shouldn't forget that there were fewer medals 100 years ago and so olde Britain still kicks modern Britain's butt.
1908 had 110 events and 22 nations in attendance. 2012 has 302 events and 204 nations attending.
Comparing the golds gained now to then is just sheer folly.
Nowt against the athletes though, they've all put their everything into it to compete and every person who attended should be praised for their efforts.
Apart from the dopers. But glad that wasn't the main message of this Olympics (The one from Atlanta in 96 really pushed that message, even found its way into video games).

It wasn't awful Ardee. It was much better than I thought it would be (Which was awful). Still didn't stand up to the Beijing Olympics but I'm reckoning might fare better than the Rio ones.

What I find weird is how inhomogeneous the rules are across sports, especially with some silly rules being in there. It's the olympics, you totally can come up with sensible rules that work across the board. Also, use tech wherever you can instead of unreliable referees.
I mean, why does swimming get so many medals anyway?
About martial arts, I think some styles go more for something closer to their art form than something really combative. The idea with taekwondo is that legs are more powerful, but hey, put that into ultimate fighting and they get their butts kicked. This is not something against taekwondo, but rather about trying to use the art form version for real combat.
Boxing looks equally weird, so many times you could throw a really devastating kick!

Just a few of the many noteworthy/ouch/lolwut Olympic gifs.

I bet Rio has a good opening ceremony! Since it's in Brazil, it'll probably just be a bunch of sexy people without clothes on.
I saw pics of that synchronized swimming team before. lol

If you heard or missed the uniform drama of the Olympics or not -- this is actually old news, but Egypt used Nike knock-offs for their teams; also mentioned in the article briefly the deal with the US, Britain, and Spain uniforms as well.
I myself think it is hilarious and a good jab at Nike itself; even if it might not have been intended. Lulz, it all came from China -- funny Nike isn't going after them on it, because they can't :p. At least Nike did the good thing, and donated them uniforms in the end.
Probably my final Olympic post:

From NBCs coverage, I got the impression that USA won everything besides a few medals that went to the guy with plastic feet and Andy Murray.
Kidding aside, the Olympics was a fun watch. I tuned in nearly every night.
Yeah. The NBC Sports channel coverage wasn't as bad, but most people weren't around during the day to catch it. There were plenty of non-USA games shown, and I happened to catch some good soccer games on lunch break.
Same here. Nothing gets me watching TV, or sports in general, like international competition.Kidding aside, the Olympics was a fun watch. I tuned in nearly every night.
