I'm not talking about a person having the likes section. That could go away. I'm talking about posts getting liked when they're good and not when they're not.
Inflating them is an ego thing, and promoting exactly what you're complaining is wrong with the system.

I don't even know how to work the 'thumbs up' thing anyway; all I see is a Received and Given notation under everyone's avatar.
Maybe mods aren't allowed.

Useful posts are indeed useful.
I generally find them being linked to by others from threads spread across the net is the best way to indicate their quality.
Having a picture of a cat in a compromising position with thousands of +1's just doesn't have the same effect on me.
I couldn't give a rabbit's butt for my 'Thumbs Up' ratio, if it's in this thread, it gets one from me by way of silly exposition.

EDIT: Hey MV! Yes, it appeared you cannot be given a Thumbs Up. You sly dog you!
This however seems to have been rectified.
Question: Is this the Fonzie thumbs up that means "cool", or the Roman thumbs up that means "FINISH HIM!" ?
Or are we thumbing our noses at people?

I thought thumbs down in Rome meant finish?
That's a common misconception these days. Thumbs down meant "let the loser live in disgrace". Very bad thing to the Romans; death was considered the honorable outcome.
Anyway, how does this thumbs thing work, anyway? I don't see any buttons anywhere, just the numbers under peoples' info.
