Near 100% World Completion and realized that I actually need to explore WvW maps. This sounds absolutely painful to me (get vistas inside enemy forts?). How are you supposed to do this without having significantly stronger world than your opponents? Especially when they try to keep it balanced.
Sucks that few days ago my world was actually owning pretty much everything. :/

I'm going to go out on a limb and say probably because wvw is awesome. Getting vistas aren't that difficult, just avoid zergs - even small battles are plainly shown on the map with the crossed sword icon.
Really wvw is like pve anyway when you avoid the huge fights. Escort a dolyak, solo a charr veteran scout, every bit helps.

Exploring the map isn't the problem but the need to capture something big.
You shouldn't have to capture them.. of course I'm not at my computer right now, but aren't there only like four or five vistas anyway? I seem to recall some being at your home base, or adjacent towers..
Yes, there are only a few vistas, but some of them are in enemy towers and there is one in Stonemist. But you don't need to cap it. Just check in sometimes. If it's captured by your world, go get the vista. If it isn't, log out.
It's a great (opinion?) way of getting people to try WvW. An aspect of the game I think is under appreciated
Also, don't forget that when worlds are paired up, your color changes and you'll have even more opportunities to map without fighting.

10 Vistas, 15+ PoI. And yes, you need to capture to get some of them.
Exactly my point, too tedious, serves no purpose.
Yeah sure, they will try because they are forced to (especially when you need to queue for it). Do you really think they are going to stick with it after such a tedious experience?
Imagine how fun that is when worlds get paired up every second week. Maybe a litte bit too tedious to get a title to show that you have fought Zhaitan at every place?
I actually tried to explore it today. After 10 min queueing I finally got in. Where-ever I went, there was someone waiting, not much chance to get even "easy" parts.
Exploring is fun in PvE, you see new places etc etc. That's not the purpose of WvW. You are supposed to fight the enemy there, not run around doing your own business.
I got a few vistas and POIs today, when doing WvW for the first time. I even killed a foe at a skill point challenge solo. I think over time you will get all POIs and vistas as well as the challenges. Colours & borderlands change, so there is a 1 in 3 chance you will get a borderland as your own, you have not checked. Like the others have said, visit a tower/camp etc. when your people hold it. I can't talk about Stonemist castle, but someday you will have dominance there too.
The only thing that is a bit bothersome is the fact that the monthly achievement counts PvP kills and not events (but TBH, this is the PvP aspect and doing 25% of the monthly in a PvP way isn't too bad ).

So, I just want to make sure I'm understanding your problem here:
It's too tedious to play WvWvW and cap points to unlock the map.
It's too tedious to wait for others to cap points to unlock the map.
It's too tedious to wait until your server pairing changes to unlock the map.
So... Do you just not like mapping or is it that you are just so against the fact that you might have to see another player?
