Getting started in WvW: A solo player's guide to not getting steamrolled

I was going to write a WvW 101 post, but I figured, hey, someone else did it, just link that. So here we are.

Found this pretty cool post about WvW on the official forums. It's called solo player's guide to WvW and is intended to be a PvE players guide to getting around the WvW map without getting in the way of fights, however it's got a pretty good spin on what to do when you're in the fights, what everything means etc.

I tend to join WvW randomly, but when I bump into people I know (and it happens) I tend to join them for a while.

I hit WvW pretty hard, it's probably where I spend a good 80-90% of my play at the moment. But I don't know of many / any other JQers on these forums.

I focus on dungeons, story, and WvW in that order. I've really reduced my persistent-area activity aside for finishing up dailies.

I love WvW. It's part of my GW2 daily routine. I spent my entire winter break leveling my necro 17-80 primarily through WvW with my guild.

Same here :D, well, almost. Got my thief from level 11 to 61ish. I probably could have pushed it to high 60s, but I decided to watch Watergate for nearly 6 hours tonight, so that meant I got next to no XP.

Oh well :P

Just did most of my daily in WvW. I still think shooting engineer elite mortar from the wall tops is great, but it's not as safe as I first thought. Under heavy fire, foes can actually hit you anywhere, and the mortar itself does take damage. Nevertheless, it's much safer than grenades or shooting over the edge of the wall.

I also got credits for events participations for it, so I am now quite a bit advanced on monthly.
