Bonus Mission FAQ

Ok, seeing as there's alot of questions being repeated I thought I'd throw this together quickly:

How Do I enter the Bonus Missions?
Talk to Durmand [Historian] who can be located in Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center, and Kamadan. Ask him for a book based on whichever mission you want to do. Equip the weapon(s) your given, open the book and hit the "enter mission" button.

Note: For the Gwen mission you need to unequip all weapons

What is Discovery Mode?

Discovery mode is unlocked after completing a mission for the first time. From now on whenever you enter the mission again discovery mode will be active. Discovery mode adds three bonus goals for you to achieve in each mission.

If you complete the mission on one character for your account, every other character is automatically started in discovery mode.

Bonus Goal Rewards

Everytime you complete a bonus goal you will recieve 2500 gold and an extra authorized story book from Durmand [Historian]. These extra books can be used by any character on your account.

You can only complete each Bonus Goal once on your account.

Repeating the missions

You can repeat the missions as many times as you like and will always be rewarded with a complete story book if you've completed the mission. This means you can get as many of the new weapons as you like.

You can only complete the bonus goals once on your account.

I deleted my mission weapon! Can I still go in?

Talk to Durmand [Historian] again about the mission and he'll give you a new customized mission weapon (togo's staff etc). This means you don't need to keep the weapons in your backpack all the time.

Trading in the books

Whenever you trade in a book to the correct trader you'll recieve a max damage req 9 weapon/foci/shield that is inscribable. The item will automatically be customized to your character, be this weapon, shield or foci.

Will Death in the Bonus Mission count as a death of my character?

The tests that I've seen all say that failign or death in the bonus missions do not count on your character. This means you survivors are safe!

FAQs whose answers involve spoilers:

Thats about all of the repeated questions I can think of right now, if anyone has any others feel free to add them.

Although i could have used this last night before annoying all the people in Lion's Arch with questions (:P), that doesn't mean it's too late to say very well done, i'm sure this will answer a lot of people's questions.

- It should be clarified if this means only weapon, or any items you get from trading the book (foci, shields)

Any item you get for a book is customized for that character. This includes focuses and shields as well as weapons.

It must be noted that if you report discoveries to the Historician, any of your chars can go talk to him and get the authorized books.
For instance: ele did all 3 bonus objectives of Turai Ossa, reported 3 discoveries = Male warrior picked up 2 undead weapons and fem warrior 1.

This is something I meant to test, but do you have to complete the full mission to get credit for any discoveries made during that run? Or can you map out as soon as you complete the discovery objective?
